beacon, x is a literal enigma to me. nothing about him fits with what you initially expect. He's like a really tall, buff; bearded fitness-health oriented person who plays guitar and rides mountain bike and listens to metal but then he's also sunshine incarnate and calming and derpy and loves bees and his friends and aaaaaaaa! like none of those are necessarily incongruent but you just don't expect it, you know?

Huge agree on HC CCs being sanitized in fandom content!! They got pushed straight into the "pure loving parental figure" category the moment dsmp therapy crossovers became popular. And they CAN be that, but it's become a common characterization and I'm a little sick of it. I've also found hermit!dsmp members fanfics where the authors just straight up admit to not having seem hermitcraft....at that point you are using the hermits as your OC stand ins for therapy and it annoys me.

but back to the point more, I feel like people see a lot of wholesome content from the outside and then totally miss their innuendos, their mischief, their angst. I think we need to bring some "edge" back into their characterization, not in a cringey edgy way but in a way where they aren't woobified. they are wholesome! they are loving! but when that's 100% of the writing it's boring ngl

I might be part of the problem … so if I can make Hermitcraft scary to some capacity I will! and not in like “gore gore jumpscare angst gore” but in a more “this is seemingly normal but something is wrong here” just cause is fun and Hermits as cryptids/ eldritch horrors is something explored sometimes but like… what if it was all of them??? The whole collective??? What if a stranger found themselves in this world????
