Bach to my own UTMV Au.
This time the backstory and lore of the overall AU setting.
It is going to be a lot but I will try to not go into TOO many details and just talk about the world.
The Name, for now, of the AU is.
Quarantale. combination of quarantine and undertale.
The name has everything to mean with the world itself.
The world/AU still had the monster and human war. It was worldwide and devesating. But not JUST for the monsters. Here the humans also had heavy loses and in the end the humans did not have the powers to lock ALL the monsters under one mountain.
It would just not have fit.
Instead. They build Prisons and areas were the monsters were forced to live. (Yes. this is MEANT to be a parallel to how colonizers pushed the native people away form their homes and pushes them in reservations or took them away to work as slaves and work in prisons. In all honestly. Segregation would be a better fitting explanation and name than quarantine but segregtale just doesnt have the same flow and quarantale has for me.)
Either way!! the monsters were locked away in large prisons and reservations. They were locked away here to live their lifes while still being forced to work for the humans who won the war.
The humans saw themselves as very merciful for even allowing the monsters to still have their own homes while this was not further than the truth. The monsters were forced to move to places which were not the homes that their families had lived for generations. They were forced to work jobs they normally wouldn't. They were forced to share the few things they made and could do with magic as a 'contribution' to the humans without, or with very little, payment. Their water supply was poisoned by the large factories and the ground they were fforced to live where low in nutrients making it hard to make food.
In short?
It was miserable.
But that is the thing.
That was the FIRST big human monster war. The war that ends with the humans locking the monsters away behind large barriers and in large prisons to work for them.
The second human monster war is still happening.
Though a war is a bit of an overstatement. as it is more that small groups of monsters have started resisting against this large oppression. That they have started to fight back and fight to reclaim the land and freedom that had been stolen from them.
A few of these prisons have been reclaimed and repurposed to acutally serve as a stronghold and home for the monster communities that are desperate to reclaim some of their own lives.
Differences between humans and monsters
Humans are much more physical and have little to no magic. magic is rare and often times can kill the human possessing it. mages in this case are not seen as something good and even a weapon. but seen as someone who is diseased and should be killed before the illness can spread.
They are ironically very much science and biology focussed. even when they often willingly misunderstand information to make it fit their narrow world view.
The humans also have avery strict hierachy and class system. were mixing between these social classes is strictly forbidden and the higher classes see the lower classes as their property. which also means that the lower classes don't get schooling and often aren't even allowed to touch the higher people because they would 'dirty' them.
(sidenote. This was the social norms and as we all know. a lot can change in a short time. look at our own actual history and all the different cultures to see just HOW true that is. there is a large posibility that the human culture will end up making a major shift over time but that is still in the pipe line and a background idea. Just a fair warning that everything can still change and may change in the overal au. this is just the start point.)
Monsters are different. They obviously are less physical and have magic, further there is a strong spiritual beleive within the community groups. They are much more focussed on the soul and how that makes a individual.
They do have leaders but those are boss monsters. if a boss monster isn't available for the position they will often pick one monster that they trust to lead them. with the resistance it is often smaller groups that work together in a bigger community, but each group has their own leader.
Everyone is equal in this scenerio, with the exception of the leader. And so everyone is expected to help to the best of their abilities.
it helps a lot that they have magic to support them. So even when the humans took away a lot of their history and studies and knowledge was lost. the monsters were quickly able to regroup as magic is much more a thing about wantng and believing over actual science and facts.
so the overall social issues between monsters nad humans. EVERY globally explained but with these facts in the back of your mind other stuff will make sense :)
the magic system is very much still in the works but i will get back to that. I like my go to system of 'magic is different for everyone and shapes for each person on what they believe magic can do' but it may not work in this world. i will have to explore characters and what they can do more before i make a decision.
The story of Quarantale is much less about deathloops and the lesson that actions have consequences and that no one is above consequences.
Quarantale would be about different social norms. Of living in a world where you don't belong. About trying to discover who you are and finidng a community where you feel you belong. about learning about another culture and fully intergrading into it.
That is the general vibe :)
