I agree with your assessment of Scott, FH, and Pale Fire if only because I 100% believe that Scott is the type of person who would undo someone’s bow tie because they called him gay.
thank you I’m so glad there’s another person who’s both read pale fire and watched third life. I’ve been thinking about it nonstop since mithartu’s post. I love metafiction and poioumena (this fic would not be a poioumenon but my posts about it kinda are?) And Also I’m really annoying and also I love both pale fire and the fh afterlife so this kind of feels like the lorefulgood interests event horizon. now if only we could get les misérables involved somehow
in an ideal world where I have infinite time and money this would look like scott’s third life minecraft skin doing talking head moments to the camera over footage from jimmy’s third life pov, and the dialogue would be repurposed either from his diegetic third life commentary (in-universe internal monologue moments) or non-canon sources (other seasons of the life series, other smps, mcc vods, collab videos, just whatever really). in an ideal world, you could stitch together everything into a coherent narrative in scott’s actual voice, but realistically it would probably just be a script format.
the premise is styled as a watchparty but it’s just 3L!scott giving his retrospective (pseudodiegetic?) opinions on the events of jimmy’s third life. scott does have a penchant for talking head moments (this is one reason his retelling of events is so persuasive) and he has said all sorts of shit about jimmy over the years. some of it would probably be invented wholecloth if I can’t find a fitting example. I really cannot overstate that this is an insane project that would take me soooo much time and I Should Not attempt it. However. the temptation.
it’s not a perfect map (joel isn’t sibyl. at least not yet), and I’d have to ditch most of the political sub(?)plot probably unless I wanted to bring esmp stuff into this (AS FUNNY AS THAT WOULD BE), but the basic framework—a character providing commentary on another (dead) character’s life’s work in a way that is increasingly self-centred and inaccurate—is functionally the same. and anyway if I do actually do this it’s going to take forever and I’m going to make mithartu do most of the work anyway (I’ll write it, they’ll do everything else ❤️).
obviously the quartz couch is the perfect encapsulation of the problem inherent in the third life fh happily-ever-after (aesthetically pretty object that is not actually comfortable or arguably functional). it’s really awesome actually. and personally I would love to have a quartz couch. it would suck so bad. kind of like the imaginary fh afterlife
fun(?) fact: scott didn’t include the quartz couch in his escape room recreation of the area, he just put a normal bench. this is because he is a coward
