#977 - Subway Murals - Queen station
Most subway platforms are, by their own nature - pretty boring. Aside from bare walls that have the occasional advertising piece, clocks and news tickers, most subway stations in Toronto are pretty drab.
There are a few stations that defy that. Queen station is one of them. It has a fabulous painting by living Canadian artist John Boyle. The mural has 4 icons on it:
1 ) The Simpsons and Eaton Centre buildings
2) City Hall
3) John Graves Simcoe, who founded York, which became Toronto and
4) Nellie McClung.
If you don't know who Nellie McClung is, you should. She was a Canadian feminist, politician, and social activist, who with four other women became known as the "Valient Five" and fought for the right for women to be eligible to sit in the Senate. She forever helped change the rights of women across the country.
