Initially this book really confused me, I was certain I had the wrong book in the series. I kept going and finished Meet Annabella, then immediately read the next published novel (The Dancing City) and then reread Meet Annabella. Since these are being intentionally published out of order the first few chapters feel like large sections of important context is missing in Meet Annabella. Thankfully that is solved by reading the follow up novel The Dancing City.
Despite this, I loved the mixture of magical realism, fantasy, and Scifi, particularly with the cast of characters. I personally prefer more extensive world building, I hope the author considers including maps in future sequels (I love maps included in fantasy and scifi novels). In some places it did feel like more detailed descriptive passages were passed over in favour of action scenes, but the action was dynamic and exciting. I really am looking forward to the conclusion of a plot pertaining to a sort of alien werewolf in sequels specifically.
(If books out of sequence bother you, maybe start with The Dancing City. But if you like a time hop around then start with Meet Annabella)Initially this book really confused me, I was certain I had the wrong book in the series.
