Day 14 | What has been your journey to today? @lisajohnsonstrategist So my journey began through a fear of going through the same mental health problems that I had suffered with 3 years prior…. In 2010, I went through Post Natal Depression (PND) with my first born. It started with a long labour, then continued with a baby that fed hourly and only took 1oz each time, a baby that suffered with colic & acid reflux, a baby that wouldn’t latch on to breastfeed and made me feel a failure as a mother, lack of sleep left me like a zombie, sleep deprivation is fierce!! To everyone else, I was me…the happy, bubbly Laura, hair, makeup & nails done, a big smile on my face, making others laugh, but behind closed doors I was quiet, sad, angry, exhausted & lonely (even though I had the support of my husband, family, friends & colleagues). I would close all the curtains, unplug the landline and turn off my mobile, hiding, drowning into the vortex of PND. I didn’t want any of this with my second child, so in 2013, a month before baby 2 was due, I decided I needed to keep my mind busy, focused! So I started looking at jewellery making kits and ended up buying the majority of a ladies jewellery making stock from EBay. I then used Youtube as my tutor and studied hard to find out what things were called, what they were used for & how to create things with what I had. One thing I didn’t do was get help and I wish I had. Please do talk, do get help! Lexico was launched on 8th May 2013 and I’ve never looked back since! (Only to see how far I’ve come!) Each year I learn a new skill in order to be able to offer you a variety of jewellery styles too. I have been nominated for & won some awards, the one that stands out for me was Mums in Business by @clarebowers_ as we work extra hard to give our children something to aspire to. I was chosen by @theopaphitis as one of his #SBS winners for my jewellery, #QueenOf winner by @adg_iq for my hand stamped items.
