It had been quite a long while since Ayato was out in town for his own enjoyment, rather than something to do with the Yashiro Commission.  And while it was a festival, so it did have to do with the commission, he had taken care of anything he had to do for this festival, so he had the time just to enjoy it.

This particular one was Tanabata. It was still the middle of the afternoon, so while there were stands and people out, Ayato knew the real action would come when the sun went down.  He’d been to this one when he was younger, but this was the first that had been held since the borders opened back up.

While it wasn’t a festival that depended on outlanders coming to visit, closing the borders had made a lot of things more difficult.

Despite not actually being ‘working’ he found himself checking everything out, including the small home that Naganohara Fireworks worked out of.

Only to hear shouting, and then a Pyro slime came jumping out the window just as about four fireworks came zipping out.  Ayato slid out of the way, then glanced over his shoulder, through the broken window.

“...I see we’re having some day-of complications, Miss Naganohara?”

“Having a good time?” They hadn’t traveled together to get to the Lantern Rite, though Ayato had seen Yoimiya running around all week and finally had the time to stop and speak with her.

Ayaka: Kokomi just said "I have an appetite for destruction" and then they reached down and untied my shoe.
