Immigrant Movement International: Year One

To provide some context for the my commentary on the this is Tania Drugueara's long term project "Immigrant Movement International". The project took to itself discussing the problems surrounding the way that the world as a whole has and currently treats immigrants. The project used the a room in the queens museum as an art piece to set-up education centers, provide a lawyer, teach classes and host meetings. However, the goal of the movement wasn’t just to affect those of the Queens area, so they have used their resources to reach out at global events and using the coverage that they get from being an art piece to help further the discussion.

The goals of the movement are not to get any certain rights accomplished to anybody, but rather to educate and have the conversation about immigrants roles in the global community. Instead of a social movement searching to accomplish something, Immigrant Movement International addresses itself as an art experiment and an education lab, trying to find ways in which to effectively communicate in the political forum without regard to legal status or monetary advantage. It uses protests, art, community tools, and much more to reach out to the global community.

Tania Druguera talks about how the immigrant point of view is so important to the global society, and with such an evolving role of interaction across the world it may be more and more common to that we will see the issues of immigration come up. But with Drugueras continued work there will be tools at least in the Queens area and online for people to access should they need it.
