Paris by Taylor Swift aka Maladaptive Daydreaming Part 1 and I Hate It Here aka Maladaptive Daydreaming part 2.
In part 1 she's make believing she's with her love, away from cameras where she can confess her truth and just hang out with them and be somewhere nicer than where she is while avoiding all the mess. In part 2 it's not just a few scenarios, she's built whole worlds away from reality where she can escape for most the year. In I Hate It Here she's not just dissatisfied with her life, she HATES her reality and is trying so hard to cope that the daydreaming has gotten worse. She's dealing with "ugly" emotions but wants to romanticize her life anyway where she can and loves that she still wants to do that, even while feeling all the emotions. Her fantasies give her the strength to power through until she can go back to its safety. I interpret the line "no mid size city hopes and small town fears" as her saying "yeah I wanted to be a singer and I was also scared of getting outed" bc I feel like getting outed is a common fear among small town gays when there's only a few of them and they date each other.
But anyway these songs have gay coded lyrics and I was thinking about how they connect together and it's really interesting.
although
i thought about you
when the rain
revealed itself
on the pavement,
and i saw its
small spurts and bursts,
like painting or crying,
til it stopped abruptly,
and i almost said your
name out loud,
but only managed
sighing.
i keep trying to forget,
but something just won't let me:
a thought, a dream i keep having
where you get a chance to see.
you don't say anything
because it's not necessary,
you just watch and see
and know it's me,
even though i no longer
wear my facial hair,
although my hair is longer now
although i wear glasses now
although i have boobs
and although im fatter too -
although although although...
you know its me,
because for the first time
it's me you really see.
in my dream you look silently,
so i can't tell what you're feeling.
but i hope you feel guilty,
and i hope you feel scared;
and i keep looking in your eyes
so you have to keep pretending
that i'm not there.
although im hard not to see
with my pink hair
and although i have my
resting-bitch-face stare,
although it looks like you don't care,
although although although...
you pretend i'm not there,
i know you pretend
because you're scared.
but then your figment fades away,
leaving me on the train
nursing past and present pain,
watching brief and feeble rain.
i keep trying to accept
but something just won't stop
this thought, this dream
where you got a chance to see.
although i look much lighter,
although i look like me,
although i look like how i wished,
although i am much more free,
although although although...
ive got almost everything,
yet i miss a world that never was,
a world where you got
a chance to see.

You was strapped to the bottom of the barrel
Dirty bucket with some hefty new apparel
Frozen knuckles couldn't make it to the carol
Uncle Ruckus got addicted to payroll soon
We’ll get elixir from the pharaoh
Cupid shuffles to the rhythm of his arrow
Couldn't have me if he wanted why he stare oh?
Still shocked by how many Swifties don't even realize that "It's Nice To Have A Friend" is a love story. "Something gave you the nerve/to touch my hand" flies right over their heads. Right over. Then they realize, and their reaction is "oh, well it's obviously not about Taylor."
Or, they think all the verses are about different friends, that the song is about different types of friendships. Ignoring the fact that both the first and third verse reference the ground and snow, thereby subtlety connecting all three verses, and showing the progression of the story.
Very interesting that she was able to call her lover her friend, and they just grazed right over it, like "yup! She said friend, so clearly it's strictly platonic". Wonder what else she's got away with by using this language 🤔🤔
Let’s make a thread...
of queer music videos! They can be by queer artists, have a queer storyline, have queer lyrics, or just give you that Gay Feel™ Reblog and add your fav!
I’ll go first!
i found out what it takes to be a man, well, mom and dad'll never understand what's happening to me
