i know that you guys aren't the person i'm referring to here, and you don't have to post this if you don't want to, but i have to get this off my chest

i'm a bigender person in the UK, but unfortunately my parents are transphobic and its not exactly safe for me to be out of the closet. i've just finished my a-levels and i honestly think i wouldn't have been able to do it without my psychology teacher. from the first day of lessons she got everyone to write down their preferred name and pronouns, and i had the confidence to put my actual name instead of my deadname. it was the first time i was open to an adult, and she never once outed me to my parents or other teachers. i remember one time she accidentally misgendered me in lesson and she immediately caught herself and corrected herself instead of ignoring it. it just made me feel so seen and human for once. i'm now going to university in september and i've managed to find an accomodation to share with other trans/lgbtq people like me.

if my teacher is somehow reading this: thank you for everything you did. i really do think i wouldn't be here right now without everything you did. keep being the best teacher there is.

our Youth Voice Jay actually just interviewed some educators about how they can support LGBTQ+ youth in their classrooms.

and our Youth Voice Nashan had a convo with other LGBTQ+ youth about bullying at school and what they wish teachers knew!

I was talking to my bisexual teacher (600/2 would recommend ily Ms. S) and it briefly came up that my dad was a republican. Mind you, this was 2 minutes into passing time, so 4th hour students are already walking in. This one 4th hour girl overhears our conversation and goes "you're a republican?????" Mind you, I am a visibly queer alt (not as much that day) relatively androgynous person with BLUE HAIR. I've also been going to school with this person since the fall (we don't talk.) I laugh and say "do i look like a republican?" She obviously says no, and we laugh about it.

My point: we <3 queer teachers please continue doing what you're doing.

i don't know what my students think about me but here are a few of the topics they've asked me in the past week or so:

how do you fix a bicycle chain (i sent them to the nearest bike kitchen)

where can you get a septum piercing if you're 15 (i said all the non-shady places only serve folks who are of age, and showed them my scar from a piercing that went wrong)

how do you start a revolution (and, on a related note, how do you make a Molotov cocktail) (i said let's plan the revolution together and there's recipes online for the cocktail)

is it morally correct to punch the classmate who keeps misgendering you (i said yes and made sure the classmate heard it too)

i mean. i don't really care what folks think of me. i just want the kids to know that they matter. then they ask me why i help them with this kind of stuff, and i say, helping you guys with stuff is literally the thing i get paid to do, and they say, oh

Sorry for the late post!

I’m in so much pain and I crashed when I got home from school today!!

Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m too much—

Do y’all ever feel like that?

I’ve been feeling too loud, too weird, too eager, too autistic, too colorful, too much for folks—

I think I put people off—

I’m worried people don’t like me, that I’m annoying, that I’m overwhelming—

No one is making me feel like that,

But I’m still feeling it.

And it doesn’t feel good.

I see myself trying to reign myself in so I don’t “bother people” with my presence.

But who says I’m a bother?

Who says I’m too loud?

Who says I’m too colorful?

Who is saying I’m too much?

Is it my inner voice?

Is it things I’m remembering my ex used to say?

Is it the greater society wanting me to dim my shine?

It’s probably a mix of all these things getting to me.

I have to remember—

I like that I’m bold, I like that I’m loud, I love the way I dress and that I don’t shut up when I notice something’s fucked up, and trying to learn to vibe with all the things that maybe aren’t as “palatable” or are fucking weird

It’s hard, really hard, but then I remember my kids smiling at me throughout the day and I think— well clearly too much isn’t so bad 🤷🏽‍♀️

man, i have a job at my university and today i had to fill in for a professor and take care of a seminar. it's just a listening comprehension thing were we watch two epsiodes of a show and then the students have to take a quiz on it.

and oh boy... we watched heartstopper and i thought, it's gonna be cute, wholesome and just overall nice. but damn, straight people watch that really differently than queer people. they were laughing the whole time and just making fun of the main characters and it was just horrible

and these were adults watching that, mind you. they're all university students. i immediately started feeling super unsafe teaching that seminar today, being queer myself.

Nothing makes me more excited for this upcoming school year more than thinking about how my dickbag principal is gonna react when he finds out I’m the new building rep for our union, on a state committee for the union, AND likely about to be on a national committee for the Union. He’s afraid of me too so I’m about to use this power to make him be nice to everybody or get the fuck out
