working my way (SLOWLY) through les miserables and read the sentence “He believed as much as he could,” about the bishop.
and yknow what, I think that’s it. why spend so much time deciding between faiths and spiritualities when I can just believe as many of them as I want? I choose to believe in the religion of my childhood, and the ethical principles I’ve learned in yoga, and whatever the hell Mary Oliver and Hayao Miyazaki are preaching. I believe in the powers of pretty rocks, and the planets, and the eggshells my girlfriend keeps in a tiny jar in her kitchen. I believe in selkies, fairies, and mermaids, because my grandma does, and I know better than to contradict her. I believe in wishing wells and the voices that Jeanne d’Arc heard. I AM going to believe that love is the most powerful thing we have, that I’m going to keep getting better, and that our world is both possible to save, and worth the effort. I’m going to believe as much as I can.
