they're less foundations and more important prerequisites. like, you can't be like "i'm gonna write a glorious twisted gothic fantasy!" "oh really what's it gonna be about?" "it's gonna be really well written and not have any sexist or racist tropes!" right, that's great, but i'm not sold here.
