Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus Mission illustration by Daisuke Ishiwatari. From the Guilty Gear Strive Digital Artbook.
Did You Know: Around 2012, Daisuke Ishiwatari was gifted a vinyl copy of Jazz by Queen signed by all four members of the band as thanks for hosting two fans at the Arc System Works headquarters in Yokohama, Japan. At Japan Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable 3, hosted March 21, 2022, Ishiwatari brought the record during a "treasure appraisal" segment, mistaking the segment as being for personal treasures as opposed to fighting game development ones.
My top 5 favorite video game composers in no particular order and with a bit of a meh summary on why I like them
1. Toby Fox (Undertale, Deltarune): Toby's music feels nostalgic to me despite not being around for very long. It's extremely catchy, it has a wide variety, and is just overall good. And also it's a very unique soundtrack. Some of my favorites are Undertale, ASGORE, BIG SHOT, and The World Revolving
2. Daisuke Ishawatari (Guilty Gear, Blazblue): Very catchy and memorable hard rock/metal songs. I like how well each theme has a meaning and how it's done. Guilty Gear Xrd and BlazBlue both have very underrated soundtracks since most people just talk about strive. Some of my favorites are: All I Can Do (Xrd; this one has a personal meaning for me), Hellfire (Strive), Bullet Dance II (Blazblue), Cry Camellia (BlazBlue; vocal version of Condemnation Wings), Requiem (Strive), and Marionette (Xrd)
3. Kan Gao (To The Moon): This is one of the most beautiful soundtracks I've heard in a long time. I cannot applaud it enough. Just play To The Moon, man
4. DM DOKURO (Terraria Calamity Mod): I like his music for similar reasons to Toby Fox. Very catchy, wide variety, and also it's very upbeat. I don't have much to say it's just really good. Some of my favorites are: Stained Brutal Calamity, what I like to call the "storm trilogy" (silence before the storm, storm before the catastrophe, catastrophe before the calamity), The Leviathan Trilogy, and Tale of a Cruel World
5. Andrew Prahlow (Outer Wilds): Same reason as Kan Gao. Go play Outer Wilds
