QUEEЯNS - Finn Street’s punk-rock girl band, or: The next installment of the Mayday Mountains AU
once again, i’d like to thank H for her valuable help with this AU - this AU is also the brainchild of @anotherlostblogger but she doesn’t know about QUEEЯNS yet
QUEEЯNS is a punk-rock garage band, comprised of, you guessed it, an entire queer line-up. It’s pronounced with both the R and the N, as if you smashed “queer” and “queens”
Without further ado, let me present to you, QUEEЯNS *applause and cheers in the distance*
JAZZMYNE ROBBINS: lead singer, serving looks and fierceness
NIKI ANG: lead guitar and main songwriter
SELORM KPLOANYI: keyboards and backing vocals
JOYCE: (i haven’t been able to find her last name but she was in the last Ruining History ep!) drums
KELSEY DARRAGH: bass guitar, backing vocals
Their style: punk-rock feminist queer anthems; they’re still a very recent band so they don’t have many original songs yet, but they do a lot of punk covers of 90s girl-power pop like the Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child, TLC (this is a good example, even though it’s a male cover, but you get the vibe). Also covers of other badass queer queens (Hayley Kiyoko, Janelle Monae, etc.)
Examples of their sound: X X X X (Cherry Bomb would sound especially amazing in Jazz’s voice)
They are notorious for changing the pronouns if the songs don’t sound queer enough (#CouldBeGayer)
They perform at Green Door, the bar where Selorm works, and her friends/coworkers Chantel & Kenny always support the fuck out of them
Niki’s girlfriend Jen, who works at Rugged Sounds record store, pushes the fuck out of their first EP on every customer, no matter what they came in to buy
They have a song called Anne with the lyric: “If you had fought like a man / you need not have been hanged like a dog” (yeah i’m still not over that RH ep man)
THEY GO HARD
Life on Finn Street outside the band:
Selorm bartends at Green Door, like I said, but she also has her own solo act going on - smooth, RnB stuff (I mean that much is canon irl) and the band and her coworkers support her 100% - girl will be ~famous one day have you heard that voice???
Jazzmyne and Joyce co-own Gal Pals Books, a queer and feminist bookstore on Finn Street, where they fuck shit up, spread the queer word, and hold tons of events: slam poetry readings, book launches, queer book clubs, etc.
Niki co-owns Sunrise Bakery with Annie Jeong and she brings a cupcake to her girlfriend Jen every morning at the record store
Kelsey is a journalist - she writes for a local paper but her dream is to make it as a music journalist - she spends a lot of time at the record store to listen to everything Jen will give her in order to expand her horizons.
