'And what about you, Ouloo?' he said loudly, jokingly. 'What's your take on the socio-political woes of the Galactic Commons?' Ouloo stood on the pathway, holding a tray of her elaborate puddings as though she didn't know what else to do. 'I want everybody to get along, and I want to make them dessert,' she said quietly.
The Galaxy, and the Ground Within, by Becky Chambers
Here's an attempt at Roveg the Quelin. I think he had 21 pairs of legs in the book but.... That's a LOT of legs OTL
I'd love to see this dude do the Thousand Hand Bodhisattva 💙
Inhuman of The Day
September 7th - Quelin
Quelin Amaquelin, an Inhuman dignitary who lived on Attilan many years ago. Quelin was the son of Kobar and La and the brother to Azur. Quelin married Ambur and together they had two daughters, Medusa and Crystal. Quelin sister, meanwhile, married Mander and their sons were Triton and Karnak. Quelin’s specific role within royal government was never specified. His being the brother-in-law to Mander, who himself was the brother to Queen Rynda, afforded Quelin and his family greater luxury and status on old Attilan. To this extent, Quelin’s daughters were raised in the Royal palace along with their cousins, Triton, Karnak, Gorgon, and Maximus. Quelin’s ultimate fate remains unrevealed.
Sissix: I will burn your ship
Quelin: My ship is made of metal
Sissix: Your crewmates are not.
Ashby:
Ashby: Well fuck
in my opinion, Becky Chambers’ wayfarer books become better if you read all of them and read them several times.
there are many small details that you might miss the first time around and they make the stories and the entire wayfarer universe more coherent.
one example is when in the second chapter Corbin is complaining about Rosemary being unexperienced and listing situations where she might be unable to cope, and he mentioned Quelin enforcers. Fast forward to the chapter when the crew are indeed inspected in Quelin space and it is Corbin who suffers the most from it, and Rosemary knows how to help him.
And then there is that line how Enforcer Bevel would be “great fun at parties” and Ashby replies “Only if he has the proper formwork for it.” Three books later we have Roveg, who is not only having a blast at the music party with the others, but also initiates everyone watching vids together, invites Speaker for breakfast and has a moment with Pei and whatever it is they are drinking. Not your most typical Quelin, but very good with his formwork.
Can I offer you a niche Wayfarers series meme in this trying time?
