HI HI HI HI I SEE YOU REBLOGGING PHM HAVE YOU WATCHED IT EXCLAMATION POINT
i have watched it (statement)! you were right this shit good
i now need to read the book because i want to see how the interspecies communicating was worked out in text form...
also i love rocky. i love that rocky is. rocky. alieny. nonhuman but recognizably sapient. and i love the vizualization of eridian tech we got in the movie.... so prebby
got asked in an oc creation ask game and decided to take a shot....
4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
i'll answer this one with TSDUL as a whole, since that's been my biggest brainworm as of recently.
the most obvious answer: the fact that everything takes place in Minecraft. this part is by FAR the most "stable" element of TSDUL, so it often works as my launching pad for ideas/plot devices/jokes.
the other reason why i focus on the minecraft aspect so much is because of what i plan to spoof: minecraft "args" (which, controversially, are not actually args). my fixation on this new wave of minecraft roleplay makes me realize.... er, not a lot of stories really USE the minecraft setting?! which i think is fine, but i think there are a lot of things you could do if you take advantage of the setting. a lot of things that you could imply without ever saying, even.
18. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
Clo has taken the worst aspect about myself: instead of properly learning how to code, she just googles what she wants each time and hopes someone else had her problem.
i love a good arg. what is this interloper thing you seem to be the only one posting about here.... i desire context 👀
O-KAY, DISCLAIMER: INTERLOPER, DESPITE ITS MAIN TAG, IS NOT ACTUALLY AN ARG.... it's more just a webseries that sometimes lets it's audience contribute to the in-universe narrative.
with that said:
SO WHAT IS INTERLOPER?
Interloper's story is about a mystery related to the Source engine, the beloved game engine that runs Half-Life 2, Portal, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike Source...
it all starts with this graffiti on a wall in Half-Life 2, that isn't supposed to be there when you play the game...
spooky! but the actually interesting thing is when you type this line of code when the graffiti is around:
get s.interlope.pull:27015
cuz it gives you strange demos (or "player" video recordings) that don't make sense.
the screenshots below are from an in-universe archive of the original discovery thread, you can read it here if you want (it isn't too spoilery, dw :))
soooo, why is this happening? what's so special about this graffiti? what's with the strange demos?
that's what Interloper is about. no one was able to figure out anything back in 2005, so now our new rookie investigator, Anomidae, is on the case. using buried internet leads, genuinely impressive technical knowledge of the Source engine, and the community he's rallied up, will he be able to figure out the greatest mystery of Half-Life 2?
i sure hope he does!!! i need to know why the fuck things happen!!!!!!!
btw, this is Pbs.Lucy/[REDACTED]. reminds you of anyone?
...yeah uh. lets just say i found out about Corru.Observer through fanart that i thought was her.
there is no reason for me to tell you this other than to let more people laugh at my blunder. perishes.
Do you have any favorite robots or fictional characters?
as i tend to gravitate towards robots in media, i like a lot of robot characters in general... i do have a few faves though. here are some i can think of:
FIDO811
FIDO811 is a character(s. you'll see soon) that's part of an online anthology series by Upgrayeddddd on Reddit. while i recommend to just read the whole series in release order (it has some really neat stories about sentient ai!), i consider Fido811 to be the best story that you can read standalone.
the best way i can describe Fido is that it's a military ceberus... it's a one-dog body that created 2 more personalities after it was active for so long. due to it's unique circumstance, it's able to be sentient without going insane (it's a thing of the anthology's universe) because the three personalities balance one another.
Here's Fido 1, 2, and 3 if you wanna read it... r slur warning for the first story.
RB-34 (or Herbie)
another robot from another anthology... Herbie's a character from I, Robot (which is a book i highly recommend every robot fan to read at least once... AND DONT WATCH THE MOVIE)
it's really hard to explain what Herbie's deal is without also having to (re)explain the three laws of robotics... so all i can say is that a) he can read minds, b) he's willing to lie for the sake of keeping the first rule, and c) this fact would lead to his own demise.
