I'M LEGALLY SOPHIE NOW!!! CAN I GET A W??? I've been working on this for three years now. Covid, procrastination, emotional exhaustion, and frustration over dealing with bureaucracy held me back for quite some time. As well, from an anarchist perspective, I don't recognize the state's authority to tell me what my own name is. I am Sophie, regardless of what an official looking piece of paper says. But at the same time, it feels nice to not have to have *that* conversation anymore. I've been working hard to get roadblocks out of my way for the last few months, and this is a big one! 2023 is going to be a great year.

It’s National Coming Out Day and I’m so tempted to say fuck it, call my parents, and tell them about everything I’m feeling. But I’m so unsure... I’m sure but like I’m not. I keep thinking about what if I change my mind.. What if I decide I’m not transgender...or that I fall in the middle of the spectrum? So I can’t say anything just yet. I’ve only had two therapy appointments and still have a lot of work to do, but talking about it feels so good. Telling my friends who matter, has just felt right. There’s all these steps I still need to take but there are some days where I just want to jump off the edge into the unknown and just tell the world... I feel like I have to contain that though, at least for now. Save it up for the day tat I’m certain. And who knows, maybe I never will be “certain”... All I know is that slowly, and surely, I’m getting to the space I know I’m meant to get to. And if this National Coming Out Day isn’t the day for me to come out to the world, then I’ll let it be the day I come out to myself, and accept myself as anything but a woman.. Whatever that makes me.

Queers will say ACAB, and in the very next breath try to police other queers' identities. It's exhausting. . Discourse seems to be a constant "crabs in a bucket mentality" about what part of the community we throw under the bus. . Are he/him lesbians valid? Can you call yourself a bi lesbian? Is it femboy erasure to come out as trans? Do xenogenders count as trans? Is it okay for trans men to like their breasts? Are you allowed to use it/its pronouns? . Y'all, have you never heard of solidarity? . "Queer" is a categorization that defies categorization, and identities within that are often messy. Let the people in our community express themselves in whatever way feels right to them, and don't give them any grief about it. . Because if that he/him bi lesbian fights fascism, he is doing more to improve material conditions for us all than any of the liberal queers engaging in d i s c o u r s e on Twitter about whether or not that's a valid identity. . Do I get these identities? No. But I also don't get trans men because my entire experience with masculinity was wishing I didn't have to perform it. I don't get straight trans women either, because men ain't my cup of tea. But what I *do* get is that queer rights are under attack, and we'll all suffer as a result. . I'm proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with my fellow queers to defend all our rights, regardless of how they identify. . Has transitioning, overall, been a positive experience for you? . I was talking about this with my partner recently - we both revel in our transness and, while we wish certain things may have been different, we don't regret being trans. . Personally, I'm deeply grateful for being trans. It's brought moments of crushing pain and sorrow that felt like they might never end, but also some of the greatest moments of ecstacy I've ever experienced. The latter far outweighs the former. . I dunno homie this shit is dope imo. . But I also know a not insignificant number of trans people who view transness as an almost universal negative, by definition. I can understand how fortunate I've been - middle class, white, living in a relatively progressive country - but I just can't relate. . What do you think? The anti trans lobby is pushing a narrative that “children cannot consent to hormones", which is interesting only because of how blatantly wrong it is. . In fact, there are far more hormones in the human body than the ones we use to trans our genders. They're given to children on a regular basis, and nobody bats an eye. . Insulin is a hormone, and without it, children with diabetes will die. Yet nobody is protesting that children cannot consent to insulin. . Children with hypothyroidism, a condition that causes their thyroid to be underactive, may be given supplementary triiodothyronine, which is the hormone their thyroid ought to be producing but isn't. Nobody cares about this either. . If your kid has trouble falling asleep, you might head to your local drug store and get them a melatonin supplement. This is a hormone as well, and again nobody cares. . We see these things as healthcare, and rightfully so. Transgender hormone therapy is, of course, healthcare too, but as soon as you mention it, Mrs. Lovejoy pops up to scream PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN . But this is all beside the point. . The whole reason we have "minor" as a recognized class of people is because children don't know stuff, so their parents/guardians are there to make decisions for them based on the best knowledge at the time. And when you have tons of credible research showing that gender affirming HRT is a good thing, and a few disgraced quacks and angry men with no credentials pushing against it, the decision seems obvious doesn't it? . Conversations about transness are difficult to have. . We're under constant attack from hateful reactionaries who want to use us as a scapegoat to distract from the thousands of ways their billionaire masters are destroying the world and making a peaceful life more difficult. . As a result, discourse is largely focused on protecting each other. . Discussions around the various intersections of privilege and personal history become rigid, dogmatic, orthodox, because any step outside can - and will - give the hateful reactionaries more fuel to dump on the fire. . I don't disagree that such orthodoxy - for now - is necessary, and as a result I will not engage with any discussion on the ways I disagree with the overarching trans narratives (and I encourage you not to either, especially not in replying to this post). Instead, I will only lament the position we've been forced into. . The transgender experience is diverse, and the more we have to close ranks, the less we're able to explore the various ways we're affected by our transness in a nuanced way. .
