I strongly disliked the trial and liked basically everything else The reason I disliked the trial is: working under the assumption that rose is a person who did bad things, we open up the chance for Steven to try and own up to the things she did and through it realize that he isn’t responsible for them, and that he isn’t destined to become a war criminal like her. That narrative would’ve been really valuable for kids in bad family situations and by absolving rose of blame we eliminate that possible narrative and moreover what we’ve got doesn’t make character building sense and I’ve frankly got no idea where they’re going with this. Like, a story shouldn’t be utterly predictable but they should build on what they have so it’s satisfying to the people who pay attention? And what they’d given us besides this seemed to be leading up to Steven having a really therapeutic moment of realizing that he can try to heal what his mother broke but he isn’t responsible for the break in the first place That said, every new character is my child except rutile twins who is my spouse because they're like my celebrity crush Ashly burch except with a communication style that fits really well with my own (with the whole repeating themself thing)
