RWBY Review V5: E7
I think this is a good point to say that this episode wasn't bad. I liked it overall, and there wasn't a lot of problems with it. I think the biggest thing to say about this episode is it was supposed to be lighthearted.
While the episode was shorter for this reason, it leads to what's about to happen, which is Raven's camp getting raided. Which I called. Now whether or not she surrenders (which I don't see) or fights back is the question. While I can't see Raven surrendering, I can see her siding with Salem on the single notion of her NOT liking Ozpin, because we've all seen that she's selfish like that. She's a bitch and in the end, what she does is for her own self interest so there's really nothing else to be said about it.
As for characters in this episode, it was nice to see RW_Y and JN_R talk casually and actually... act like friends... you know, what they've been implying they all were, but weren't showing us. I think that's a really good thing. I won't really talk about the casual talk, since it was just that: banter between friends with no real meaning. It was cute, but that's about it.
However, I will speak about Ren's little speech, which is what I expect from a character of his caliber. As someone that seems to be wise, they should try and utilize that side of him more. So they did good with that.
When it comes to the Ozpin talk, that was... handled alright. I like that someone called Ozpin out for lying... though it being Yang (even though it makes sense...) is weird. The reason I say it's weird is because this is ONE thing that... for the love of God, Jaune could've done better.
You want us to make like a character, but give us no reason to and when there's a point when you can do something with him, you MISS it. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Jaune has been angry about Pyrrha for what seems like FOREVER, takes it out on someone that had no real part in it and just brushes it off when it comes to Ozpin. Yang called him out, and I'm GLAD she did, but the only thing she should've did was stand by her sister (which she did. Proud of her.). But she set the guidelines for Ozpin: No more lying, no more half truths. Which is good.
I do really feel it's weird that no one called Ozpin out on the reincarnation cycle thing and taking Oscar's body -- not that they can do anything about it, but the sheer acceptance of it bothers me. I do feel like there should've been a scene where Weiss and Yang came to find out about Ozpin in Oscar's body and not been okay with it. However, while I don't think it's okay, at this point it's whatever. It's just something we have to accept, which is what the kids are doing.... though questioning the 'Qrow and Raven being birds' things is just silly. He body snatched a kid, why are you questioning shapeshifting at this point.
Despite all of that... the episode is passable. I'm no fan of getting exposition just launched into my face through talking, but here it was done okay... The only thing I'd change was which characters do what.
Like if they want me to believe that Jaune cared about Pyrrha, I need them to prove that to me and show me with his actions. But every time they get the chance, they blow it. This is why people hate Jaune -- because he's inconsistent. Either go all the way, or don't.
Whatever. Next episode it seems we're going back to the action. Let's hope it goes somewhere good.
