DELETE AND BACKSPACE DO NOT DO THE SAME THING.
Delete will delete the character IN FRONT OF your cursor, and backspace will delete the character BEHIND your cursor.
I always think this is obvious until I get a new hire to train, and I tell them “Okay, hit delete,” and they hit backspace and delete the wrong character. Figured I’d share it with you guys.
Other tips: hold down ctrl when using the arrow keys to move your cursor, and you’ll jump one word front or back, or one paragraph up or down.
Hold down ctrl + shift while moving with arrows and you’ll select at the same time.
Single-click will put your cursor somewhere. Double-click will highlight the whole word you clicked on. Double-click and hold and drag and you’ll highlight full words.
Depending on what you’re using, triple-click will usually highlight either the entire line or the entire paragraph. Some programs even have quadruple-click features.
Home will put your cursor at the beginning of the line. End will put it at the end.
