New Options and the Inventory
The new release added some options that I really like.
The one I’m really excited about is train length visualisation. When putting down train stops or rail signals on a rail track, the game used to automatically show placeholders for up to five train cars. This is great for making sure there is enough room on a rail track when signalling and building a train network. But depending on your preferences five cars just isn't enough! Especially in a mega base, players will often use way more than four cargo wagons as well as additional train engines to make them go faster! And if you use double headed trains, that's even more engines on the other end of the train!
There's a new option to customize the length of the train visualisation. You can have up to twelve little placeholders to indicate your trains length, which should be more than enough for any but the most ridiculous train networks.
Another option regards the new reference-slots-only toolbelt. As shown in a previous post, you can have up to ten different sets of quickbars. Switching between them can be done very quickly, especially with the new shift+[number of the quickbar you want] hotkey (that I'm finally getting used to!). But if you switch between a lot of items all the time, you can also change the number of quickbars visible on the screen. You can have up to four or alternatively, if you think the new toolbar switching is fast enough, you can even turn it down to one single quickbar.
Speaking of the toolbelt, since they no longer count as inventory slots, you might be worried about losing inventory space. But don't worry, we were given additional inventory space in exchange. Compared to the previous version, you start the game with a whopping 80 inventory slots right off the bat!
And the "Toolbelt" technology that used to give you the second quickbar will now increase your inventory by ten additional slots instead! And as always, the late-game types of armor will give you additional inventory space as well.
As you also may have noticed in the screenshot above, you actually start the game with a single piece of wood now. So you can get right on mining the first few pieces of coal without having to go chop trees with your bare hands! With all these changes, there's nothing stopping you from building your best base yet!
