P: Why I hate school

You will totally understand, being Greek and all, but for the rest of you... basically high school is a place you go to where the teachers don’t give a shit about you, and even if they do, they can’t teach properly because the students also don’t give a shit about them (because everyone takes after-school lessons, which is really dumb but essentially inevitable), PLUS the things they teach us are so complex and difficult to understand (I heard they teach these things in university in the rest of the world), that nobody actually knows what they’re doing and just memorises useless knowledge. The cherry on top is, our final exams at the end of our last high school year, the exams we take to enter university, aren’t really even exams anymore, they’re a competition. They turn students against eachother, and everyone hopes the others don’t do well on their exam so they’ll have better chances at entering university. These exams (called “Panellinies”) are so intense, students spend a year literally sleeping like 4 hours a day and studying all day long. It leads them to the breaking point; many kids have committed suicide and/or have been treated in the hospital because their anxiety has made them physically ill. can you tell i’m really nervous about this last year? it’s in two years and i’m already freaking out

D: Hardest thing I’ve ever been through

I think probably when we moved  from Greece to Australia back in 2004. I was only 5 years old and only knew the words ‘yes’ and ‘no’ in English. For half a year, I would run to my mum during recess (she worked at the same school I went to) and start to cry, because I had no idea how to communicate with anyone and I was trying so hard.

no but picture steve at peggy’s funeral (if it is peggy’s funeral)

she kept getting worse and worse and by the end she didn’t recognize him, he’d go visit her and say he was “an old friend” and she’d sigh and nod and say “alright” having no idea who he was, and steve saw her die knowing that he would never forget any small detail about her but she didn’t remember any of his anymore.

he carries her coffin across a long aisle of SHIELD agents, old friends, people who owed her life to her, and they all know who steve is, they all know who he was to her. her family and acquaintances (there aren’t a lot of friends left) all say “she spoke very highly of you” and the agents who didn’t know her personally fill him with a thousand “i’m so sorry for your loss” and “i wish we’d met in different circunstances” and handshakes and everyone stares at steve the most but they all stare at the ground when he glances at them, thinking he doesn’t notice but he does. he knows that everyone there sees him as “the one who’s hurting the most” because peggy outlived practically everyone else.

steve relives every second he spent with peggy and wonders if anything would have gone better if he had done even the tiniest detail differently. part of him knows she would have died anyway, she was in her 90s after all, but the other part wonders if anything would have changed if she hadn’t gone with him on that plane, or if he hadn’t kissed that other girl. he often wonders “what if i hadn’t crashed? what if i had danced with her?” he knows things would have been different then. or even more desperate, he wonders “what if i hadn’t become captain america at all?” he lies awake at night wondering if he’d be willing to sacrifice everything that makes him who he is now for the sake of peggy leading a (possibly) better life, a life that doesn’t end with her withering away not knowing who or where she was. after a while he realizes that him not being captain america would lead to him not saving bucky, and the only thing he knows about bucky is that he is alive today so would he be willing to to risk that too? he realizes he’s thinking too much but he can’t stop, soon he starts having nightmares where he’s given the choice but it all goes wrong and peggy still withers away but bucky dies in italy too and none of the other avengers become a part of his life. “i spend my life alone but at least peggy got her dance. is that better?”, he wonders. he wonders a lot about how peggy handled him breaking his promise. he tries to convince himself she didn’t care, but fails every time.

steve still gets cards in the mail after the funeral and each of them feels like a stab in the heart. twisting and twisting the knife with all those words of sympathy. it pains him to see SHIELD agents of all people living their lives not acknowledging her, but talking to nat and seeing that she’s the only one who seems to realize the peggy topic is off limits somehow feels better. she’s the only one who doesn’t walk on eggshells talking to him. he wants to thank her but doesn’t know how. she sees that and just says “you’re welcome” out of the blue. this is why they’re a good team.

steve cries a lot. it’s not something he used to do but he does now. sometimes a piece of toast jumping from the toaster does it, other times it’s jazz on the TV. he doesn’t listen to his records anymore. the last time he cried was when he thought he’d lost bucky, and he’d told himself “you’re captain america, everyone expects you to be strong. be strong”

but super soldiers cry too, he realizes. and boy, do they hurt.

i’d love to see a marvel short with just tourists visiting new york after the movies take place and asking new yorkers questions about all the wreckage and they answer with the most unfazed look on their faces like

“what’s with those marks on the wall there?” “oh that? some big ass green dude just started parkouring” or “that’s my grandma’s house, sometimes her window gets smashed by this huge hammer but then it jumps right back to wherever it came from. we’ve started setting the clock by it”

“what about that on the road?” “that was like last week or something bro this dude in a metal armor smashed into the road, one car almost ran into him, but he said sorry so it’s cool”

and maybe even “sometimes this guy dressed in purple shoots arrows at the wall and they explode. we tell him to cut it out but it’s like he doesn’t even hear us. tbh i like his friend better, the redhead. she taught my little sister how to punch sleazy dudes in the face”
