I'm not quite sure what you mean! Skins on the computer version of Minecraft are easy to find and you don't need a code. If you're referring to the skin packs on the xbox version, I've never actually played it, but I believe they cost microsoft points and need to be bought to be used.
First, you need to mine some iron ore. Use a stone pick to mine it first - a wood one wont work! Then place the iron ore in a furnace with some fuel and it will smelt the iron into usable ingots!
Typically when this happens to me, I just dig up and place cobblestone under me as I dig so I slowly make my way up. Of course, digging straight up has some dangers, namely gravel, sand, or lava. Place a torch on the block you're standing on while you dig, so if you encounter gravel or sand, it will automatically break on the torch and you won't suffocate.
For lava, either have your hotbar filled with something like dirt or cobble to quickly block it, or dig a two block high hole to the side for you to run into if you find lava. This will give you more time to get some blocks to block the lava.
I'm completely unfamiliar with Painterly, so I'm putting this in rebloggable form so if someone out there knows you can reblog with the info :)
Do you know how to get the gold in Skyblock? I thought you had to go to the mainland to get it, but people are saying you can complete all the objectives without going to the mainland at all.
Zombie pigmen! This one took me a bit to figure out, too. Zombie pigmen drop gold nuggets, and nine gold nuggets can be crafted to make one gold ingot. You can get zombie pigmen to spawn in the Nether.
You can't place water in the Nether so a traditional mob spawner is out of the question. I usually just make a platform high in the air (around 50 blocks high or so) with a bunch of holes in the floor. They're still a dumb mob so they'll fall through holes easily once they spawn. Just make sure to build a platform big enough underneath them to catch their drops.
Make sure to build a cobblestone shell around your nether gate area. It IS possible for ghasts to spawn up there too (though very, very rare), so you should take precautions.
skybox
I've never played SkyBox before. Do you have a link to it? I googled it and all I found was this, so I want to make sure it's the right one.
skygrid
Oh man. Well, SkyGrid doesn't have any objectives, but it is a serious challenge if you don't know your stuff. If you do, it can be a ton of fun, especially on SMP.
For those who don't know SkyGrid, this is the entire map:
The first objective you should make for yourself is to make a cobblestone generator. You'll need to find wood first for a crafting bench and pick, then enough stone for a stone pick + furnace, then enough iron to make two buckets (to gather water and lava). You'll need some form of fuel to smelt the iron, too.
Once you've got a generator, you'll be able to safely build a platform to camp on.
The best way to gather blocks without water for elevators is to parkour your way under them and break them from below. Just don't jump too far down; it's impossible to jump up. You'll need blocks or water to get up.
Good luck, seriously. And just...don't fall.
do you have any special tips for survival maps?
Pretty much everything under the survival tag is very useful for any survival map.
Are there any specific survival maps you were looking for tips on?
do you know anything about the requirements for getting the aether?
I have never played the Aether mod, but from what I've seen in Let's Plays, the requirements for a gate to the Aether is a gate in the shape of a nether gate but made of glowstone, and is lit by pouring water into it.
You can probably find a lot more about it on the Aether Wiki.
In regards to the Aether mod itself, I've always heard mixed things about it being updated for later versions of Minecraft. I'm not sure if it is out for the latest version yet, nor where to find it.
