For those of you who enjoy the adventures of the little green chick, I recently finished making a “quiet book” I designed for young kids based a day in Chick’s life. Quiet books help kids practice fine motor skills and are nicely portable. I had a lot of fun creating this. I’ve only made one for right now, but I may write up the pattern in the future.

So, my mother and I are making a "quiet book" for one of my niblings. I'm in charge of closures, five little monkeys, peek-a-boo, and counting.

This is counting, half finished! I need to finish sewing down the eyes, then attach the jellyfish to the page and take out the little yellow X's (they're just tacking down the ribbons).

The ribbons are each going to have the appropriate number of pony beads, once I've obtained those, and then I'll pin down the ends of the ribbons by stitching that top light blue layer to the page over the loose ends in a wave.

So, dry run for the first page of my first felt children’s book! The first book I do will be colors. The edges will be machine sewn with felt instead of hand stitched. The tab is going to be the same. The page itself will be larger, this one was 5in which is not enough space. I’m going to add another layer of lace on page 2, along with actual red buttons instead of the pastel stand-ins. I’m gonna switch the ricrac to underline the word. The hole in the corner will be hole-punched and machine sewn so the loop I put in to bind the book will be more secure.
