A short Nygmob one-shot
“Does it ever bother you?”
The quiet question in the otherwise silent room was enough to pull Edward from his post coital doze and he raised his head inquisitively, his brain not immediately able to make the leap to follow Oswald’s train of thought.
“My lack of experience,” Oswald clarified, doodling random patterns on Edward’s damp skin self-consciously.
March Madness - Day 10
Obsession
Dermot patted Morrigan’s hand as she squeezed his shoulder, flickering a grateful glance to her before she moved away from where he stood, watching over the camp. Most of their group were resting, but Alistair had rather foolishly offered to spar with Elinar. This was resulting in the young Grey Warden having his ass handed to him in multiple ways by a woman who was certainly not letting her withered hand get the better of her.
Dermot frowned as he watched the sparring. There was a fire in Elinar he was unused to seeing, a darkness that flickered at the edges of her consciousness and colored everything she did or said. It worried him, though he had no idea how to broach it with her. Nor even what it could pertain to.
“She is spirited, your sister.”
He glanced to his left, to where Zevran was lounging against a tree. It was strange, he reflected, that he had been ready to kill the elf when they had first spoken, yet now he welcomed the quiet, undemanding company Zevran offered at times. He didn’t feel as though Zevran expected anything of him ... well, apart from that embarrassing offer to share his tent that first week. He really had to stop thinking about that.
“She’s always been the strong one,” he heard himself murmur, returning his gaze to Elinar’s display of martial skill.
“But this strength, it worries you, no?” Zevran asked quietly. “You see her losing herself to the darkness.”
Dermot’s head snapped around once more to pin the elven assassin with a sharp stare. Zevran shrugged lightly.
“I, too, know that darkness,” he said in an easy tone, as though deliberately keeping his voice light. “That obsession for revenge. It changes you, and revenge itself never takes the pain away.”
“You have personal experience of that?”
Zevran’s smile was disarmingly dismissive. “It is not my obsession that concerns you,” he pointed out. “Be worried, my friend. Show her your concern. Teach your sister not to pin her hopes on a death that will change nothing.” He sighed, straightening up from his lean. “Or you will lose her to the darkness.”
He gave Dermot a nod, slipping away toward his bedroll, leaving the Warden to stare after him in the gathering twilight. He knew Elinar was obsessed with ending Rendon Howe, knew she risked losing herself to that obsession ... so why was he now distracted by Zevran’s darkness?

with no longer you, i'll say my part quietly then, in hopes it reaches your heart and to no one else.
i'll say it quietly so, it brings you back from where the earth has hid you from me.
ever so quietly, the cosmos of our colours unites once more and give the sunset hue again.
