Moshang inspired quilt part 2
(part 1)
So I got the black & blue rectangles cut out, so now I was ready to piece together my first block. Since I've never made the hunter's star, I wanted to learn exactly how it all worked before I got to trimming everything all at once.
I have the cutting tool for measurements, but I cut the first 4 trapezoids wrong, making them a quarter inch shorter than they were supposed to be. Oops. Well, I knew going in I was gonna make mistakes, but at the very first step? Damn 😔
Still, got them cut out and put together! They're a bit wonky bc none of the heights matched either, but I figured I could hide that in the seams.
I also used glue to keep the pieces together instead of pins or clips bc I'm terrible with them lol it ain't gonna move at all when glued together!
Next I attached some larger triangles, and then promptly realized my tension was all off.
Brought the tension down all the way to 1, which is odd bc I've never had to go that low before, but the stitches finally looked nice on both sides after
Then all that was left was to trim them into squares and put them together! No issues here thankfully lol
And voila the first block was done 🥳
I made mistakes exactly as I expected, but man it came together nice and pretty, those corners lined up well!
My next step will probs be to make this first square into a placemat to try out what will look good quilted on it

Mutuals, Quilting community of tumblr and those who go through the "poll" tag to vote, hear me;
Which block do you think I should make?

Right
To add some more context, the quilter's guild I'm in has this challenge where we make a star block using florals and some off-white background fabric, both of which I have. My issue is deciding on an actual pattern. Hence the two choices. I like them both equally and I have a few months before I gotta make the thing, so I'm not super worried about it. Would like some input from others though!
(You wanna reblog this to increase polling size sooo bad btw)
Slowly working my way through my partial Ice Cream Soda blocks, with just a few left to make!
I was working from home today so I used my commute time to play about with some blocks. As I worked I kept auditioning more sashing on the flying geese quilt. I would like to find something in my stash that will do the job. I really need to do something about the lighting in my sewing room office. It is so bad I didn't notice the colour difference on the feathery block.
