Avilia thinks she needs to eat the Phoenix DF users to maintain her "immortality". It's not the truth of the matter, but she doesn't know any different.
She tracks Marco for years, but can't get him because of the power of the WBP crew. She starts to fall for him, but very much in a way that leaves her wanting to eat him.
She's only human when she keeps her focus. Emotions and injury can cause her to revert to her more natural Harpy state. She's a beautiful human, and for as beautiful as she is while human, she's just as grotesque and terrifying as a harpy.
She is a solidly skilled fighter, with all three haki types at her disposal, but she's a coward deep down, and doesn't have the conviction to stand her ground. She'll avoid combat and flee whenever possible, preferring ruses and grifts to get her way.
