Thirteen years after the Mighty Nein’s victory over Lucien in Cognouza, Essek and Caleb Widogast are living a happy, peaceful life in the Tangles of Rexxentrum. That is, until an experiment with Aeorian magic shunts them backwards in time, stranding them in the rural Marrow Valley with the Nein’s first meeting looming on the horizon. Without answers or their usual resources at their disposal, it seems the only way out—and back to the life they worked so hard to build—is through. Chapter 13: Essek's bonds with the Nein are tested and deepened at the Harvest Close Festival, as the consequences of his past actions draw ever closer.

Well, I had intended to have this done in like, April or something. But! Better late than never! And it's still the anniversary month of the fic too! So I call that a success! The time travel shenanigans continue, with more Shadowmauk and so, so many Mighty Nein nonsense. I hope you enjoy!

He’s not spared even a cantrip of thought as he charges up the final set of stairs, charging into the room at the top of the tower. There are more ghouls, so many ghouls, but Aranessa is there, and she imbues him with Haste the moment she sees him, but where— Julien’s ears ring with the scream that tears out of his chest, his throat burning as through fire had raced across it. On the table, green eyes wide and vacant, lies Occtis, chest artlessly cut open. There is only one person left in this world who Julien loves. In another time, Julien Davinos and Occtis Tachonis met more than a year before the death of Thjazi Fang and fell in love. It's not enough to stop a tragedy.

I am so fascinated by these two and the ways their relationship could develop in canon and I was also seized by a hoard of plot bunnies and brain worms XD this is the result, I am very happy with it, I hope you all enjoy :3

I am just stuck on the visual of Essek sitting anxiously at home, knowing that Caleb is in danger and trying not to Send to him, trying to let him do what he needs to.

And then he feels, so deep in his bones, a wave of dunamis only matched by that of the time nap in Aeor, and knows something has gone terribly wrong.

So he tries to Send. To reach out to his husband and make sure he’s okay.

And all he gets is static.
