As you may have heard by now, though, Quixol will be shutting down next month... It's a sad truth, but our time has come.
Before we close the server for good, though, Admin Vivian is doing a few impromptu server tours, to relive all the good memories we made over the years on Quixol.
In about an hour, we will be doing another world tour, this time of the world Ghalea, which was started Nov. 10th, 2018 (3 years ago!).
The server tour should start around 2:30 pm (PST). As always, you can connect using mc.quixol.net, versions 1.15.2+.
In addition, there will be another world tour later on, possibly a few days or a week before the server shuts down on December 12th. This server tour will go over some of the most prominent/noteworthy player-built structures, as well as an exhaustive tour of the Chroma Park build on the server. If you'd like your base/structure to be covered by the server tour, get in contact with admin Vivian (or just send an ask to this blog). You can even elect someone else's build to be a part of it.
---
It doesn't matter if you haven't been active in years, or hell, even if you were banned at some point. Speaking personally (admin Vivian), I am not one to hold onto grudges of the past. Seeing as this is a matter of preserving digital history, I think it's important to go over stuff that others built even if I am not necessarily in their good graces (or vice-versa). Of course, there will be a world download, but more people may get to experience it this way!
Thank you for reading, hopefully you all will enjoy this trip down memory lane! -Admin Vivian
Today is Juneteenth, the anniversary of the announcement of federal emancipation of enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865. It is often considered the freeing of the last enslaved people, but it is important to mention that in the US, slavery still legally exists in our prison system with the 13th Ammendment.
In honor of Juneteenth, and protests against police brutality (which specifically targets Black people), I have donated the entirety of my tax return totaling $889 (rounded to $900) to a variety of Black-led organizations and individuals. I am asking the Quixol community to join me, by collectively matching my donation. Meaning, that we would like to collectively double that $900 to raise $1,800. There are over 200 members in our Discord server, so if everybody were to donate $10, we could easily surpass that. We ask that you donate directly to a cause or an individual, and send your donation receipt to a staff member. To incentivize donations, if you donate a minimum of $5, Quixol staff is offering a ticket for a customized armor stand. More info on the tickets can be found on this page: (x).
I am glad that Quixol is a place we can be vocal about racial justice, but we can, and we MUST do better. All of us. We must uplift and celebrate the lives of all Black people in our communities, and we must be actively anti-racist. We must have the hard conversations with our friends and families and here in Quixol. As a non-Black person of color, my experiences with racism are incomparable to the injustices faced by Black people here in the US and globally. While I speak mainly about the US, this is a global issue. To quote Jasmine Richards, who has run the Black Lives Matter chapter in my area since 2015, (#BLMDENA) “this is a movement, not a moment.” To encourage sustained support, Quixol will be continuing these donations monthly.
I’ve included a list of resources and places to donate but I also encourage you to do your own research. This is a limited list. I welcome you to share with us any places or individuals you would also like to uplift. I have specifically found organizations and groups that are specifically Black-led, or are vocally intersectional for BIPOC with Black people in leadership roles.
I’d also like to point out that many of the links I include often include reclaimed slurs in their titles, or in click-thru links. If it is a word that I, Mara, can reclaim, I have not censored it, though some may have had to be abbreviated for Tumblr’s content rules. Personally I feel that the work being shared is too important to exclude, even if it is typically against Quixol rules. However, I have also made it a point not to share links with graphic images or videos that show violence against Black people. There is no need to share or spread those images, and doing so causes more harm. I have tried to limit any written descriptions of violence, and provide as much warning as possible.

It's been a while since Quixol has had an official area for drop parties, player promotions, and mini-games. Well, with the server updating to 1.14.4, we're changing that. Quixol is happy to announce our brand new warp: Chroma Park! This amusement park is chock full of things to do, from playing mini-games with your friends to finding secrets hidden all around the park. There are currently five zones, with plans to expand later.
Chroma Park enters into Sunset Lane, the main street of the park. While there's lots to see here, you'll definitely be interested in our outdoor amphitheatre, with a big open floor for drop parties. Behind that, you'll find Sunset Castle, the centerpiece of the park!
To the west, you'll find the Wild West, home of Greifer's Gulch. Once a mining town, you'll now find a large rollercoaster through the abandoned Glow Mines. If you're in the mood for a fight, you can stop by Banker Brawls, our new PvP area.
South of the Wild West is Synth Zone, where you can take a trip into the future! Take a ride through space on the Star Sheep coaster, or try to beat your friends in Lava Fishing.
To the east of Sunset Lane is Hydro Land, the water-themed portion of the park. This is the home of Project Salsa, otherwise known as Slappy Salmon. It's back and even better than before, so get ready to slap your way to victory!
Below Hydro Land is Verdant Vale, located in a lush and lively forest. Here you can play a magical game of Mush Golf and try to beat the high scores, or check out the new and improved Sheep Pit! In an exciting update, the game can now be started without mod help.
With the introduction of Chroma Park, we're adding two new warps. The first is /warp ChromaPark, to bring you to the outdoor amphitheater. This is where we'll be doing our drop parties, and you'll find the donation chests for them here. Our second new warp is /warp minigames, to bring you to our minigame building on Sunset Lane. From here you'll be able to warp to the park's notable attractions.
We wanted to give you all a few highlights, but there's plenty more we didn't mention, too. Spend some time at Chroma Park and find out what else there is to see!
PS: All future drop party donations should now be made to the donation chests at /warp chromapark, thank you!
QuixolMC has been sitting on the stale old version of 1.14.4 for quite some time now. Despite how minor of an update 1.15 is, we just never got around to it! It’s a shame, really- we generally try to stay on top of the latest minecraft updates. Alas, we’ve been on hiatus these past few months, and gotten very little work done towards updating the server. We’re hoping to change that soon, though- much sooner than you might expect!
Because we’ve taken such a long time to update, the mojang team has been working away at the brand-new 1.16 Nether Update. In fact, it’s available RIGHT NOW! Yep, it just released earlier today. The 1.16 update is a major overhaul to the game, particularly in regards to the nether dimension. You can see an overview of some of the new features on this page: (x). With this in mind, we’d like to share our preliminary plans for both updates with you all!
Before jumping in: all dates discussed in this post are not final. We’re taking things a bit slower since we’re just coming back from hiatus, and want to make sure we don’t just contribute to more burnout for our staff. If one of these “deadlines” is putting too much strain on us, we’ll scale things back until we’re more prepared.
---
Minecraft ver. 1.15.2
It is currently our plan to update the server to 1.15.2 ASAP. We’ve already begun some preliminary tests to make sure our plugins are functioning on the latest mc version, and things look promising- no surprise, it’s a relatively minor update.
You can hopefully expect to see QuixolMC updated to minecraft Java Edition 1.15.2 by Friday, July 3rd!
The server will go down for maintenance on Tuesday, June 30th. During this time, we’ll be updating the server, plugins, etc. and making sure everything is prepared for you all to join again by Friday. There shouldn’t be too much new stuff, but we may have a few surprises lined up!
We previously announced that we would expand the world border for the 1.15 update, however, we have since re-evaluated this decision and decided to hold this off until later.
Our update to Minecraft 1.15.2 will primarily be a stability update, focused on improving server performance and stability. The most you can expect from us updating is having our current plugins/datapacks supporting the new features added in 1.15, as well as, potentially, some changes to ranks on the server- more on this later. Beyond that, there will be no major features introduced with this update, aside from mojang’s introduction of bees.
Minecraft ver. 1.16+
Mojang has been hard at work on a new update to minecraft, dubbed the Nether Update. It just released today, and it’s unclear when any of the plugins we currently use will even be ready to use on this version, let alone if the version is stable enough for use on QuixolMC. On top of that, we simply aren’t prepared for such a large server update at the current time.
Given the large scale changes to the nether in this update, we currently plan to completely reset the entire Nether dimension for the world “ghalea” when we update to this version.
This will mean that anything that is currently built in the nether on our primary world will be completely gone from the server after this update. This may be surprising and upsetting to those who have made structures and mob farms inside the nether, and we understand how this may negatively affect some players’ experiences. If you’re one of these players, keep reading, as we have a “backup plan” for those of you who have structures you don’t want to lose after the update.
In the coming weeks, we will be contacting as many people as we can about the upcoming nether reset, with information about how & why we are resetting the nether world. We intend to extend the offer to anyone who has built major structures in the nether the opportunity to save a back-up of your build so that you will not lose it. We can work out the details of these back-ups individually with each player we contact, so as to help you transition smoothly through this reset. You’re also free to come to us yourself with questions about this, as there are likely some significant nether builds we don’t know of.
Due to the nature of the Nether Update, most of the backups taken will be completely mismatched with the surrounding terrain in the nether, and many mob farms will be completely busted. It will be up to you to “fix” the area surrounding your build so that it blends in with the new terrain, should you choose to do so.
In addition to resetting the nether, we also plan to expand Ghalea’s world border to 32,000 x 32,000 blocks with this update. The current world border is 24,000 x 24,000 blocks. This will translate to the border expanding 4000 blocks in each direction, to a “radius” of 16k blocks. If those numbers confused you, take a look at this image hastily made in mspaint:
If you’re still confused, just know that the world will be bigger, and it will have newly generated stuff beyond where our current world border is located- this will include the new villages from 1.14, bee nests from 1.15, and some minor tweaks to structure generation as well as ruined nether portals from 1.16.
These are all incredibly preliminary plans, and are subject to change. We will provide you with more up-to-date information as the time draws nearer for this update.
With all of that in mind, we will give an extremely vague and unclear “deadline” for this update: We will hopefully be able to update the server to minecraft version 1.16 before October this year. Again, these plans are very rough, and very subject to change- it could come sooner, or it could come later. We don’t know yet.
---
There will likely be more content bundled into each minecraft update we do, particularly the later planned 1.16 update. We will make sure to provide more details as they come, but for now this should be a rough overview of what to expect of QuixolMC in the coming months.
If you have any questions, particularly about the nether reset, or anything else- feel free to ask us! Thanks for reading, cya soon! - Quixol Staff
Aaaaaand we're back, everyone! QuixolMC is now updated to minecraft Java Edition 1.15.2, paving the way for a potential 1.16 update in the future. This means everything in 1.15.2 is now available - like bees!
Some notable changes:
QuixolMC now has a "no-tick view distance" of 12 chunks in the overworld, 10 in the nether/end. This means you can see farther than the "normal" view distance. Technical details of this will be explained later.
We have removed the 'novice' rank, the rank given when first joining Quixol (not scout). New players will now simply be the default rank. They should have the same permissions that novices had prior, so this shouldn’t affect too much.
Phantoms now only attack players who haven't slept, instead of showing no preference between well-slept and poorly-slept players.
Jobs: Players with the explorer job will no longer be paid for exploring while gliding with elytra.
Mob heads: The mob heads datapack has gotten an update, and many of the mob head textures were modified/improved. There are also a few new mob head variants. We will update the loot tables page later with the updated info.
This update is just a small stepping stone towards a larger, more exciting update to minecraft 1.16 (the Nether Update). This update will mean a new nether dimension, and an expanded world border! You can read some of the details of our plans in our previous blog post here: (x)
You can now connect to QuixolMC with either 1.15.2 or 1.16+ clients. We hope to see you ingame soon!
Hi everyone! QuixolMC is going down for maintenance, starting right now. When it is back up, we will be playing on minecraft version 1.15.2! This will be the start of our gradual move towards 1.16. We expect the server to be back on July 3rd. See you all in 1.15.2!
My, my, it’s been ages since our last changelog. Where has the time gone?
Truth is, this post should have been uploaded a looooooooooooong time ago. Sadly, many of the staff of Quixol have been on an extended hiatus- leaving us with nobody left to type up these changelog posts for us, let alone work on new things... Read more on this here.
With the long hiatus behind us, there’s still some loose ends from our update to minecraft 1.14.4 that need tying up... such as releasing this post so you all know everything that was actually changed. Yeah, it’s pretty bad that we let it simmer for that long, but hopefully you’ve all gotten the hang of things without it.
With this changelog, we’d like to issue a special reminder that every “change” listed here is not necessarily something that happened recently- they can often be weeks, if not months old. After categorizing the changes into some main groups, we order them by chronological order, and provide a date as well so you can be sure of when a change was made. Hopefully this helps you get an idea of what you’ve missed, or if a certain “change” you just now noticed has actually been around for a while.
It should also be mentioned that the vast majority of the changes in this changelog are things that were changed in the huge 1.14.4 update we did.
For example, we released the sprawling new Chroma Park, our new party + games area. We also added some new datapacks, as well as updated our existing ones- you can check out all of the up-to-date info on the custom crafting recipes as well as the mob loot tables here and here.
There are numerous other changes and additions, but that’s what the rest of this post is for! Take a look below if you’d like to know more about all of the changes that have taken place in the past ~8 months (ouch).

% [1/30/20] mcMMO: Small tweaks to loot from "shake" ability as well
- Server Builds / Locations -
- [10/01/19] Removed various buttons/signs from the grove, as the minigames there were broken anyway
% [11/14/19] Reset most of the chunks in the end! The main end island and some of the surrounding islands were spared, as were a few player builds, but everything else has been reset
# With this in mind, please be considerate of other players when exploring or building in the end. You should only need one elytra, and collecting multiple at a time is frowned upon unless you're specifically getting them for players you know who need one and don't have one yet
# Also, remember that the materials inside of end cities are all craftable (including shulker shells from the shulkers thanks to our datapack), so you don't need to demolish end cities to get those items!
- [11/14/19] Removed the following server warps: adventurehouse, bog, equinox, florida, ravine

- Technical / Bug fixes -
% [10/01/19] Fixed bug where shulker bullets would explode instantly
# [10/18/19] Server's hardware and location has changed.
% [10/18/19] QuixolMC now runs on a very modern Ryzen CPU with a cpu benchmark score of 20,000+, as well as NVMe SSD storage. (This is a good thing)
% [10/18/19] QuixolMC is now hosted in Utah, so players from Europe will have higher ping now. Players in Australia or elsewhere across the pacific may notice slightly improved ping. Players in the Americas may notice slight changes as well.
- [10/18/19] Major loss of coreprotect data. All old coreprotect data is gone
+ [11/12/19] Enabled “per-player mob spawns” setting
% [11/12/19] Reverted “count all mobs for spawning” setting to use vanilla behavior
# "Per player mob spawns" means that the mob cap is no longer global; it is now per player. Or, at the very least, determined based on the amount of chunks loaded within your "region" of surrounding chunks (essentially all chunks that are connected together, so it could cover multiple players potentially). This requires more testing!
# "All mobs count for mob spawning" means counting even mobs that are not considered "natural" (ie spawner mobs) to the mob cap. By changing to this we are effectively restoring vanilla behavior here. The old system caused some problems and wasn't really worth it in the end.
% [11/12/19] Experience orbs now only merge up to a value of 1000 xp
% [11/12/19] Chunks are scheduled to unload more frequently now
- [11/13/19] Removed the annoying "registered furnace" / "registered brewing stand" messages caused by Jobs plugin
% [11/14/19] You are now kicked from your faction after 1000 days of inactivity instead of 365. This is to basically "disable" the feature since it seems a bit buggy currently.
% [11/14/19] Fixed bug which prevented players from viewing their own biography if they could not view other players' bios
+ [11/14/19] /bio age now accepts "minor", "underage", and "adult" in addition to integer arguments

+ [11/14/19] QuantumChat: The console can now send private messages to players through /msg . Just for fun :)

List of known bugs/issues:
! New players can sometimes get stuck in the beginning room of the tutorial
! The “mobs” section of the statistics counts how many times you’ve been killed by another player for some reason. It will not show how many times you have killed other players, however
! mcMMO: Sometimes, when you are killed by a mob you recently hurt, the death message just says you were killed by [a bunch of hearts]. (This is rarer since the update, but can still happen)
! mcMMO: You don’t get alchemy exp for making slow falling potions
! mcMMO: mcMMO’s messages, either party messages or about abilities, sometimes send at incorrect times, or even send to incorrect players
! Factions: Certain faction permissions are buggy or not intuitive
! PerWorldInventory: Player inventories saved in 1.11 - 1.12 (in the world Protos) may have shulker box data corrupted. undyed shulker boxes turn into purple shulker boxes, and any items inside shulker boxes may lose all of their NBT data.
! Quickshop: When making a quickshop into a double chest, then breaking it to make two single chests, it still thinks the shop is there, regardless of whether its told to be deleted with commands or manually broken in survival.
! Viaversion: 1.15.2 client may experience “ghost blocks” while mining very quickly, or, more frequently, after explosions occur. This is actually a vanilla bug, but it won’t occur if you’re on the server with a 1.14.4 client.
! Viaversion: Client may crash while typing book. Technically a vanilla bug, but exacerbated by viaversion. See here.
! Viaversion: 1.15.2 client will display all statistics in the “items” and “mobs” sections incorrectly/jumbled. It is an issue on the client-end, the server still tracks player statistics properly
Things to come:
• Update to 1.15.2
• New/updated Chroma Park games
• Releasing more custom advancements
• Fixing more bugs?

about changelogs
-----
That about wraps up this changelog- and what a lengthy log it was!
As stated before, most of the changes you saw in this post were a result of the ambitious 1.14.4 update we did in November last year. So, most of this stuff isn’t new by any measure- the most recent change on this list is already 3 months old.
Possibly the most ambitious, and most impressive, of these changes is Chroma Park. It took ~2 months of work from well over a dozen people to make the build you see today! It’s the designated “party area”, as well as home to several hand-crafted minigames that you can play for yourself at any time. Go check it out sometime! /warp ChromaPark
There were numerous other changes made, but one that might pique your interest is the large scale mcMMO update. Last year, mcMMO’s original developer returned from a long hiatus to overhaul the whole plugin- we tried to explain some of what’s changed, but honestly it’s a bit difficult to even summarize. You can take a look at some of the changes in mcMMO’s own “changelog” if you’re curious, however keep in mind that some of the information on this site is either outdated or does not apply to QuixolMC.
We apologize again for taking so long to publish this changelog... It really didn’t need to take as long as it did. But, better late than never, yeah? Hopefully the information is still useful to folks, even if it is “old news”.
We’d give an update on things on our end, but... I’m sure you’ve probably heard enough doom and gloom about hyperinfective viruses as it is. So, instead, we just want to wish you all good health. Things are scary out there, so make sure to stay inside- not just for your own health, but for everybody around you. Quixol will always be here for you!
