“No, I imagined you would eventually. You’ve always been clever.”
He figured her out first. But then, he had more to work with on his side than she did. He could recognize parts of her that would never change despite the years between them. Her heartbeat, her scent, even the way she walked, talked, and breathed. They were all the same or similar to what they had been back at St. Agnes.
This day couldn’t get much worse, could it? First he’d all but collapsed half dead in front of Foggy, revealing himself and his hidden identity to one of his dearest friends. And now his oldest friend had arrived on his doorstep, having finally put the pieces together to realize just who the Man in the Mask, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, truly was.
Sitting up on the couch, he stifled a groan, his entire body still in pain, “If you’re expected me to fight you again, don’t worry. I’m out of commission at the moment.” A fight with a ninja followed with a clobbering by a giant would do that to you. At least he was wearing a shirt now and she didn’t see the absolute mess his chest was in, even now that Claire and Foggy had gotten him fixed. “If you’re here to arrest me...please don’t Skye, or, well, Daisy.” He heard the tinny little voice in her comm call her that before, “Let’s just talk. Please. I can explain everything.”
