Roommates and Wombmates Pt. 13
Roommates and Wombmates
A Valiantremnant original
A young, single mother tries to hide her pregnancy from her 3 male roommates, and is in the thick of things…
Pre-Story notes: When I was initially drafting this, I had always intended the birth to be split into two chapters. However, as I was writing it, it got to the point where if I was going to stick with that plan, they would be absurdly long, almost full length stories in their own right. So as it sits, the birth will be in 3 parts. I've been planning this story for a while, and I want it to be written correctly.
Part 13 - 41 weeks
Grace's sleep was the sleep of the dead. Her dreams were as featureless as they had been the night before, only she felt herself being jerked to wakefulness every now and then from her contractions. While she never full woke up, even in her dream she could tell what was happening. But as she napped, she felt the interruptions to her dream getting weaker and spaced further apart. When she woke, while she was still in bed, she had shifted quite a ways in her sleep. Groaning as her muscles, sore from her contortions, stretched as she moved, Grace managed to roll her ponderous body upright, putting a hand to her belly. "Oof. Ok baby… Is today the day?" Grace looked at the clock. Three in the afternoon. So the day wasn't totally gone yet, and the sun wouldn't set for another few hours. Grace figured she'd just stay in the apartment, walk around, maybe do some easy chores and hopefully have the baby before she went to sleep. First things first, she desperately needed water. Grace stood up and hissed as her hips protested, and added to litany of complaints from earlier that day, "I can't wait for my hips to stop hurting…" Grace waddled to the laundry closet before she went to the kitchen and opened the door. A wave of warm air wafted out of the machine, and Grace sighed as she held the still warm, fluffy towels. Nodding in approval, she carefully took them to her bed and set them down before returning to the kitchen.
As Grace filled a glass of water, she had a contraction, the first she was aware of that day. Or at least since waking up. It felt strange, not as strong as the ones she was having while folding her laundry that morning. She didn't think it was a big issue, remembering in her research that dehydration could stall contractions slightly. She finished her glass of water and put the cup on the counter and grabbed her water bottle, which was mostly unused since she had to stop going to the gym. She sniffed it and shrugged. She filled the bottle up and returned to her room, folding the new towel and making sure it was in a place she could easily get it from. Grace put the other two with her birthing supplies and began moving the whole pile onto her dresser, making sure that everything was finally ready. "Right, this again… Towel, birth box, first aid kit, bleed stop, girdle… eh, that can go…" Grace tossed the Girdle onto her desk chair. That wasn't something she was going to need anytime soon, and resumed her task of her final check. "Disinfectant, bucket… Oof.. here we go…" Grace paused again as she leaned hard on the dresser as she breathed through another contraction. Grace checked her contraction timer and to her surprise, this one was only six minutes after the last one. It also lasted a bit longer this time. Finally things were moving along. "Hoooo… Right. Okay. Floor pads and lastly…" Grace went to the laundry closet. This last item was too bulky to hide in her room, and at least a new clean bucket wouldn't look out of place in there. "Bucket in case I have to throw up. Oh, that's another thing, I can't wait to eat normally and not feel like I have to see everything I've eaten in the past week."
Grace brought the bucket back to her room and grabbed the vacuum while she was at it. Tossing the bucket onto her bed, Grace plugged in the machine, a difficult task with how large her belly was, and got to it. "I can't wait to be able to bend over again…" She muttered as she pushed the vacuum around her room. It hadn't been that long since Grace had last done this, but she wanted to make sure her room was ready to go. She didn't plan on moving furniture away form walls of even going under her bed with it, but at the very least, she wanted the center of her room, her birthing suite, to be free of any dirt or debris. Once she was done and had rolled the vacuum back to the closet where it belonged, Grace grabbed the box of puppy pads and began laying them out. She knew that water breaking this early in labor was rare, and mostly happened in movies, but low odds didn't mean it never happened, and she had no idea how hard it would be to clean amniotic fluid out of a carpet. It was surprisingly more difficult than she thought it would be, and had resorted to crawling around on the ground to get them all laying flat. "Hoooo… oh. This feels nice," Grace muttered as she had a contraction while on her hands and knees. Maybe this would be what she should do? She rocked, back and forth, swayed her hips and moaned through the contraction. While her movements still didn't make the contraction feel 'good', they felt better. As soon as she could move again, Grace finished laying out the pads and crawled to her bed. As comfortable as it was on her back and pelvis, it was murder on her knees, and Grace wanted to try a contraction like that in bed. "Oh crap," Grace whined, "I forgot to time that one…" If she had, she would have seen that it was only five minutes after the last one.
"Whoa! Ow ow owwwww…" Grace whined as she rocked back and forth through the next contraction. She'd been on her hands and knees for an hour now, and the strain was starting to bother her back. She had decided to see how bad the next contraction felt before deciding to change positions. It was bad enough, she decided, to risk moving. When the contraction eased and she could breathe easily, or easier again, Grace slowly lowered herself onto her left side and rested, groaning with relief as her shoulders and hips no longer had to hold her weight. She put a hand on her belly and rubbed it, poking at it's solid, yet slightly giving surface. The baby poked back, annoyed, and Grace smiled. She would probably miss this. As much as she hated being pregnant, she had to admit that she was incredibly impressed that she had gotten this far. Closing her eyes, she re-ran the reasons why she couldn't keep the baby, and reminded herself how heartbroken the couple would be if- "Oh," Grace said sitting up, "I gotta let them kno-OW!" Grace doubled back over, putting a hand to her side as the next contraction bit into her right as she moved. She hisses at the sharp pain in her side working in concert with the larger, gripping pain of the contraction. When it eased up, Grace fell back onto her side, panting and crying slightly at how intense that contraction had been. "Holy… fuck!" Grace bit out as she recovered, "Oh god that hurt!"
Grace stayed on her side until the next contraction came and went. Once it had, Grace got up and grabbed her phone from the dresser. She hadn't been timing contractions with the timer since before she'd laid out the pads, but by looking at the clock over her desk, they were about five minutes apart and lasting almost forty-five seconds. If she had been using the app, she was sure it would have told her to go to the hospital by now. Grace pulled up the contact info for the intended parents, and shot them a text. Grace: Hey, thought I'd let you know, I'm in labor now. It only took a few seconds for them to reply. I.P.: OMG! Really? The baby is coming? Grace: Yep. I'll keep you updated and meet you at the hospital when I deliver. And thank you for letting me do this my way. I.P.: Of course! Just as long as you promise to go in if you even think there's a problem. Grace: Will do. I will call you when I'm ready. I.P.: We have a friend who lives about 5 min away from the hospital, so there's no need to worry about timing. Grace: Ok. I'm gonna go focus on having your baby now. Grace could only imagine the happy tears that the intended parents were now shedding. She had met them quite a few times earlier on in her pregnancy. Both women were wonderful people, but both had the same rare form of infertility, and had struggled to get into an adoption program. Grace had wanted to meet them to ensure that the baby was going to the best people possible for it, and she was sure she had made the right choice. She smiled at the words she had texted them, 'your baby'. She knew how much that would mean to them. The smile vanished as she had another contraction while she was still standing. "Oh god, Augh!"
The sun had gone down an hour ago. Grace had closed her blinds, to prevent anyone from seeing into her apartment. She had ditched most of her clothes, just wearing her sports bra and a pair of baggy shorts. She didn't even have panties on underneath them. Her contractions had gone up and down in intensity, getting stronger for an hour than getting lighter for an hour. But each time they got stronger, they were more intense than the last wave. It had worried Grace at first, but once she had looked it up, she found that it might be any one of three reasons. The first was dehydration. "Unlikely," Grace muttered as she took a drink from her water bottle. Her constant circuit of bedroom to kitchen, kitchen to bathroom, bathroom to bedroom had ensured that she was constantly drinking water and flushing it down the toilet. The second reason was the baby's position. Grace frowned. She didn't really have a way of checking that. She had found a wireless ultrasound wand while browsing, but she couldn't scrape together the nearly four thousand dollars she would have needed for one. But by poking the baby and feeling where it kicked her, she could guess that it was head down and not posterior at least. The last reason was something she didn't even think a hospital could check quickly. Just hormonal fluctuations. She had helped that by using the milk pump she'd gotten and had started using the thing, and, much to her own surprise, pulled substantial amount of milk from herself. Dipping a finger in, Grace tasted a drop, and found it surprisingly sweet. "Hmm. I suppose these would do the job, wouldn't they?" Grace muttered, patting her generously sized breasts. Once she had filled the only two bottles she had, Grace took them and put them in the minifridge under her desk. She didn't want to breastfeed the baby, but it would need feeding when it came.
In any event, Grace welcomed the occasional waves of lighter contractions. One thing she hadn't gotten out of the vlogs, which were clipped and edited, was how boring it was. At first she had tried to distract herself by playing the preloaded games on her computer. She still wasn't too big into gaming in general, but she had fond memories of the old pinball game. Unfortunately, even the lighter contractions were too much to let her concentrate on the game, and more than one round was lost she had another. Now as they were picking up in intensity again, she had switched to playing Majong. Having long given up on the contraction timer, she liked having the small clock counting her time on each level working as a small reminder of her progress. She found the game relaxing, and soon, found herself falling into a calm rhythm as she clicked on the tiles and breathed through contractions, moaning as they got stronger. As she sat and played, she had to start squirming her hips at an uncomfortable sensation. She was now leaning forward, putting her weight on the desk and twisting her hips back and forth through the contractions trying to handle this new sensation. As she rocked her hips up a bit, she realized it felt like there was a bowling ball under her. With a gasp, Grace pushed the chair back and put a hand down between her legs.
"Oh thank god," She said in relief, relief that the head wasn't partway out, but also slightly disappointed. If it had been that easy, her life would be much simpler. As it was, she curled around her belly as another contraction came, and the pressure, she was certain that's what she was feeling, grew stronger. "Oooooohhhhh…. I gotta be close. I gotta check." Grace slowly stood up, feeling like she was as fragile as glass and made her way back to her bed, snagging the box of sterile gloves as she did. Pulling one on and slicking it down with a healthy dose of lube, she laid back in bed, planted her heels and slowly pushed her hand inside herself. She'd read about self checks, and the first thing that every source she found said that women shouldn't check themselves. But Grace knew that most women who felt a need to do this usually didn't have sterile gloves, and a plan to do it alone for months. Grace gasped as she brushed her clit, which had gotten more and more sensitive as her pregnancy had gone on, and stopped to shudder a bit. "Oh godddd," She moaned, tilting her neck and biting her lip as she tried to get a hold of herself. When the feeling passed, Grace continued her exploration and soon her probing fingers found her cervix. It felt strange, like a rubbery ring with a steel core, it had little give to it, but she could tell that it was opening, and she was able to fit two fingers in, but it was tight enough to be sore. "Okay… so that… Shit, only four?" Grace was about to pull her hand out, but felt something move. She gasped as she held her fingers inside her cervix. Even through the glove, she could feel… it felt like a balloon, squishy, and through it… "Is that the head? Holy-AUGH!" Grace brought her left hand up and bit down hard as she had a contraction, her right hand trapped inside. With her body bent to her right side for her self check, her left side flared with pain, her hand was being crushed, and worst of all, her vagina screamed in pain as it clamped down around it. Her head trembled as she kept her jaw locked on her hand. For the first time, she wanted to scream, to let loose, but now, she worried about the noise. What if the foam wasn't enough? What if the neighbors heard?
She groaned and fell back as the contraction eased, and worked her hand out of herself, the glove coming off inside her in her haste. She pulled the glove free, wincing at the sharp sensation and tossed it into her garbage can, slowly loosening her jaw from her hand. "Ouch," She gasped as she looked at the damage to the base of her left thumb. She hoped it looked worse than it was, and reached over to grab the first aid kit. Wiping the bleeding marks clean, she put a band aid on it and grabbed something from her top dresser drawer, something that she hadn't used in months. Her rice sock. It was an old pair of socks filled with rice she used to help with period cramps. She was going to use it to help with her labor cramps in a different way. She put it to her mouth and screamed as loud as she could. The dense bundle soaked up the noise and Grace sighed, lowering the sock clearing her now sore throat. Good, that would work. She just as quickly brought the sock back up as she had another contraction, and now, with a way to let loose, she didn't hold back her moaning. As the contraction eased, she heard her phone ding. Grace looked at it and saw that there was a text from Jake. It just had a single line. Jake: Can you give me a call? Grace frowned and brought up his contact and hit the call button. After a single ring, Jake answered. "Hi Grace. Uh, just letting you know that we'll probably be back home either tomorrow or the day after." Grace felt her body go rigid. What? That was too soon! "Uh… why?" Jake sighed, "You know how Roger got fired at Walmart? Well he was trying to hit on some chicks at this bar with that story, then went across the street and stole a forklift to prove to her could drive one. No one got hurt, but the cops arrested him for disorderly- you know what, it doesn't matter. What does matter is that our options are either Roger gets dumped into the legal system here, or we all go home on the next flight." Grace couldn't believe what she was hearing. Roger being a complete dumbass, yes, but her plans! Her carefully and perfectly timed labor! Now she had a much shorter clock to work with. She'd been in labor a day and had only gotten four centimeters dilated! Now the guys were going to be back either today or tomorrow! "So you're coming back early?" "Yeah. I swear to GOD Roger, get back in the house!" Grace jerked the phone away from her face as Jake shouted at Roger. "Sorry. I swear I'm gonna kill him over this." "I don't blame you," Grace said, feeling a contraction coming on, "Uh, this isn't a great time, can you just- whoaaaaaaaaAAAAA." Grace couldn't hold back as the contraction gripped her belly again, this one feeling much stronger than the last one. When she was done, she picked up the phone, hoping that she could find a way out of that one. "And you have someone over I guess? Yeah, sorry about that. Honestly, I'm tempted to let Roger sit in a cell for the week." Grace considered asking if they could do just that, but couldn't think of a diplomatic way of putting it. On the other hand, she gripped onto the lifeline. "Yeah, like I said, this is a bad time… Oh stop it!" She added the last in a teasing voice, hoping her breathlessness would sell the idea that she was having sex rather than having contractions. "Aight. I'll text you any updates on our travel time. Sorry again." Grace hung up the phone, shaking. She had probably 12 hours at minimum before the guys were back. Which meant that she had to get this baby out, and soon!
To be concluded…
