In 2007, Fall Out Boy were riding the wave of success created by their previous release, 2005’s From Under The Cork Tree. Their subsequent release became a huge hit, selling 260,000 copies in its first week and receiving platinum status from the RIAA only a month after its release. Featuring popular singles like “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs” and “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race”, the album continues to shine in fan favorites like “Thriller” and “Hum Hallelujah”. It illustrates a departure from the bands previous pop-punk sound in favor of a mixing of soul, R&B, classic rock, and 90’s punk reminiscent of Take This to Your Grave. Over the years since its release, it has become a pillar of 2000’s pop-punk, for obvious reasons. By combining musical complexity and lyrical merit, Fall Out Boy managed to create a pop-punk album that is enjoyable by all.
