Another ramble, set before season 1 episode 1 of TVD. Triggers are marked as usual. Again it’s only under the line so I don’t muddle the dash. @storieswrittcn
Lee sat at the breakfast bar of a loft in New York with a warm mug of blood sitting beside her and laptop in front of her. She was taking a break from her half finished canvas drawing that sat across the open space, her hands still smudged with charcoal. The brunette scrolled through various small news sites, the sound of the shower running in the background. Her brow furrowed as she pulled up one link that led her to the online version of the Mystic Falls newspaper. As she read she moved to pull her shoulder length hair up, a huff leaving her lips.
Animal Attacks Rise-- Is Our Town Still Safe
“What are you doing, Damon?” Lee asked to the room. Chocolate orbs scanned the article quickly, it seemed her eldest brother was leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. The trail ending in Mystic Falls. She knew Stefan was there already, but now having both brother’s there? What were they up to now? Lee knew that Damon had promised Stefan an eternity of misery. Thank you Katherine, the brunette looked toward the open bathroom door where the shower was still running at that thought. The older vampire had surely kept her promise of having her brothers both suffering for eternity.
However, the trail of bodies Damon was leaving was alarming. Dangerous, even. Not just for him or Stefan, but also Lee. If the world discovered what the two Salvatore men were, it wouldn’t take long before people started questioning about the one sibling that had disappeared in 1864. Some believed she died in the fire at Fell’s Church, others her father finally lost it and killed her hiding the body somewhere no one would find, still others said she died in the riot that night and her body was in an unmarked grave. But all of that would mean nothing if anyone pieced together who her brothers were.
Lee sighed, one hand moved up to rub her temple. Why didn’t Stefan just leave, leading Damon away once more as he always did? The brunette had one idea but she hoped it wasn’t that, it would just mean more drama and possibly the cycle of the Salvatore Siblings starting again. Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her ringing cell phone. She stood, moving to were she’d set her phone before she had started to work on her art.
Stefan
“Speak of one of the devils,” She quickly tapped to answer and put the phone to her ear, “What mess have you gotten yourself into now?” She asked, skipping the pleasantries.
She could hear Stefan’s sigh, “You’ve seen the news then?”
“Animal attacks? Of course I have.” She walked back toward the breakfast bar to pick up her mug, “Damon?”
“I don’t know.” Stefan replied. Lee rolled her eyes, naive little Stefan.
“We both know it’s him.” Lee counters as she takes a drink.
“I haven’t seen him. He hasn’t shown himself yet if it is him.” Lee can hear Stefan moving around, she can picture him pacing his old room. Damon not showing himself though makes her stomach knot. Yes, Damon liked a good game but usually he wanted their brother to know it was him.
“Mmm, is that why you’re calling?” She leans against the bar, eyes on the large floor to ceiling windows to look out at the ceiling. She hears the shower turn off.
“I--Well,” Stefan stumbles over his words. “I need your help, Lee.”
One brow raises, “My help? You know I don’t get in between you two.” It was too much fun to watch them destroying each other.
“No, but you’ve cleaned up his messes before. Stopped him from crossing a line. You’ve seen the news, he’s crossing it.” Stefan growls, his patience starting to thin.
She feels one arm wrap around her waist, pulling her flush into the woman behind her. Lee sighs, not in annoyance with Stefan which she’s sure her brother assumes is the cause, but from the tension leaving her that Stefan caused. The vampire relaxes against her other half, the woman’s free hand moved up to grip the hair she’d just pulled up and tilt Lee’s head to the side bearing her neck. Ghost kisses are placed along her skin.
“Why don’t you just leave?” Lee asks, keeping her focus on her brother which she knows will annoy her lover. Stefan doesn’t immediately reply. “Stef? What have you found that’s causing you to stay and Damon to go on a rampage?” Katherine’s kisses stop only for her to nip Lee’s earlobe. Lee knows she’s listening, she's just as curious as the youngest Salvatore.
“Someone...Someone I need to know.” Stefan finally admits. Well, shit. Lee does her best to hold in her groan.
“Who Stefan? Who could be so important that you are risking Damon exposing us all?” Lee takes her free hand to lace her fingers together with Katherine’s that rest on her stomach. She has to know before she agrees to help keep Damon in check.
“You won’t believe me if I tell you,” Stefan offers.
“Try me.” Lee demands.
“Someone who looks exactly like her.” This time Lee does let her groan past her lips. She doesn’t need to ask who her is. It’s the woman that’s currently wrapped around her back.
“You’re joking me right?” She has to act like she doesn’t know.
“No. She’s not like her. She’s the complete opposite. I just...I need to know her and I can’t do that with Damon or whatever other vampire it is here doing all these attacks.”
“What do you want me to do?” Lee asks dreading what his request will be.
“I need you to come back,” Stefan pauses for a moment. “I need you to help keep him at bay and help me protect this girl from him if it is him.”
“It is him!” Lee growls. “You are starting this cycle all over again but instead of us all dying it’s going to probably be this innocent girl and us.” Not that Lee will let someone kill the doppelganger. Nor was the original cycle Stefan’s fault. Neither fact Stefan needs to know.
“Go…” The word is so silent, it’s barely a gust of wind against her ear. Lee knows Stefan hasn’t heard it, even with his enhanced hearing. Lee squeezes Katherine’s hand once, head tilting to look into those whiskey orbs that had captured her heart over a century and a half ago. She doesn’t want to do this. But she’s never been able to deny Katherine before. This is important.
“Fine,” The word is pushed out between bared teeth. Effectively cutting off whatever Stefan was saying. “I’ll be there by tonight. But I’m warning you now,” Her eyes are locked with Katherine’s, her next words pointed at bother her brother and lover, “you aren’t going to like the way this ends.”
