Read Any Good Books Lately?
It had been a tumultuous couple of... weeks, months(?) on Mewni, a whole scandal involving the crown was revealed, a half-monster hybrid wrecked the capital and stole nearly all of Mewni’s Souls... but most notable was that Star Butterfly abdicated the throne to Eclipsa, Queen of Darkness, who wasted no time in going to the Monster Temple.
Because of that, people were already beginning to move towards there and set the foundation for a new town... didn’t quite have a name yet, but Aria had heard that it’d be called “New Monstertown?” What a weird name.
For the Mewman Magician, she wasn’t quite sure what to do! For the past few months she was training her magic in hopes of applying to become a Royal Guard... but now everything was shaken up and different, a new Queen, a new capital, it was just... quite a lot, and Aria coped the only way she knew how
Packing up all her things into a backpack, and going on aimless journeys across Mewni in hopes it’d get her head straight
...
There were no guarantees it’d work, but it was certainly better than just camping out in the ruins of a castle town.. and she couldn’t go back to Saint Olga’s, she just didn’t feel safe there anymore!
But luck was on her side! The dean of Saint O’s had given her the key to a storage building just outside of the Monster Temple... which worked out well, given the town was being built around there!
She was leaning towards heading towards the new capital... Monstertown, well, of course there’d be monsters there, maybe even some cute slimes...
She wouldn’t mind that, no sir! But still... if she went there as it was being built, it was unlikely she’d get any sleep due to noise... but her only other options were going back to Saint Olga’s... or stay in a place that didn’t seem like it was going to get better anytime soon... so she didn’t know what to do. She kept wandering in the areas between the abandoned capital, Saint Olga’s, and the Monster Temple, always changing her mind before settling down
And that brought her to this forest in the middle of nowhere. ... Wellll... not nowhere, it was a little close to the Monster Temple, but not too close, in case she changed her mind!
She’d been walking for a few hours now, with a sigh, she fell against a nearby tree, taking in a deep breath. “This is just... so much.” She said to herself, rubbing her eyes and stretching out, making a noise. “I swear though, that Monster Temple’s looking really good... I mean, might as well if the Royals will be there but... bluh, construction noises make me so angry!” She said, crossing her arms and rolling over to the side
“All that practice for nothing... I swear, if I had the Book of Spells I bet I’d be way better than I am right now, and I’d be able to protect the Royal Family with no problem” Alas... it was an impossibility, the Book of Spells was lost shortly before she was thawed, deep in her heart, she knew she’d never see it, but some part of her truly hoped that somehow... someway, it was still there.
“S’not fair... but then again, Queen Skywynnne managed just well without a book... she had to start from scratch like me!” The girl tried to reassure herself, before pouting. “Still, I bet she had some help from her mom... but then again Festivia’s kinda my mom so.. bluh...” She sighed, rolling over again.
“Just a peek to help me get an idea would’ve been great...” The girl closed her eyes wearily, before opening them again and catching a glimpse of something. A large, square object with a gem in the middle, between it were musty old page-...
The Mewman Girl scrambled to her feet in disbelief, throwing her backpack behind her and scrambling on all fours to the book, looking at it from every angle.
“Am I finally losing it!? Did I go crazy at long last... o-... or... i-... is this the Book of Spells...!?” The Book was a Royal Family heirloom, only princesses and queens of Mewni were permitted to look at it (or write in it), but because Glossaryck was such an important figure, Aria had caught a glimpse of the book a few times in her youth, when her father Emrick Morgan had been invited to meetings involving Mewni safety, a sapphire on the cover, even in this book’s infancy remained... and there it was, on this same book.
Aria knew it was the same... it had to be!
Her hands began trembling, inching ever close to the book, eyes filled with wonder... and disbelief, her silver goblet cheekmarks glowing with anticipation
“I-... if this isn’t the book I’m gonna be really upsets...” She reached out, and poked the book, before quickly wincing backward.... it was still there. Once more, she raeched out Poke, poke. It was real... it was... physically here!
“i... I can’t believe it’s really here... if it’s a fake it’s a really good one!” She couldn’t wait. Aria reached out with both hands to touch the book, before wincing back.
“Wait, wait. I can’t read this. I’m not a princess! ... But I’m friends with a queen... hm... maybe”
Alright... time for something weird, but she hoped it’d work, because if it didn’t, she’d look like a real weirdo.
Reaching into her backpack, Aria pulled something out, before hiding it between her hands. She got down on her knees to kneel before the book, and putting on her best respectful voice
“Sir Glossaryck of Terms, I am not a Mewman Princess, but I am a powe-... tale-... bumbli-... hopeful magician who seeks the knowledge within this book. Though I am not royalty, I beseech your aid... and hope this tribute will please you” She said, unfolding her hands to reveal a fresh cup of chocolate pudding.
“If you do not wish to help me though, that’s fine too, either way the pudding’s yours!” the girl stammered by in a much less important tone
