Read 'em and Weep
Warnings- None, just a tad bit of cussing.
Rainbow, a subdivision created by the collaborative efforts of MOST countries and their special military branches, was fostered and controlled by Harry.
It was well known, and I was new to it, causing Harry to immediately demand that I be thrown into a match with everyone else after I was done with my training. I was intimidated. I had not found my special, my gadget, or anything yet. However, I was handed a gun and thrown into the deep end.
I knew I would be a defender, that was all. I shakily reinforced the walls. I didn't know what I should expect; we had five people in one room, reinforcing and preparing. I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder, making me jump and whip around.
"Y/n?" It was Jager, he nodded, "Yeah?" I asked softly. Marius has been so incredibly nice so far. I smiled softly, making him chuckle softly and scratch the back of his neck. "There is an operator you should be aware of," He warned calmly, making me confused. A lot of the men and women here were incredibly intimidating. Who can be worse than the rest?
" Elias, or Blitz. We have a few more shielded men here, but he is worse," he said nervously, playing with his gadget. "He's fast, and his shield is his gadget." He added, looking up before he set his gadget on the wall, a cute little drone that immediately started moving.
"What do you mean?" I asked hesitantly, feeling more on edge, even if this was admittedly a paintball match, designed to match real-life scenarios and usage of gadgets. "You'll see, he's on the attacking team this time; everyone else is not. They are on their days off." He explained, before he trotted off to help Cavera catch up on reinforcements so she could roam.
We all finished just in time for Harry to go onto the comms and announce that the attackers were coming. I quickly boarded up what I could before I heard the heavy footsteps charging the building.
I quickly unholstered my AR-15 and checked if my P-22 was still with me before I ran to take cover. I crawled on my stomach to go under the desk. I looked over to see a drone looking right at me, I shot at it, missing, making the drone spin at me.
I shot it again before it drove off, I quickly slid out from under the desk and chased the drone. I was too focused on the drone since it kept teasing me, spinning, jumping, even driving at me as I'd dodged my bullets. "Damnit" I huffed angrily as I reloaded, shooting at the drone again, I finally shot it, it went down with sparks.
I sighed in frustration before I turned around to get back to the objective before I walked into something that felt like a wall, but it was cold and metal, I never saw metal walls here. I backed up to see better. It was a man with a shield. Shit.
"You finally got the drone?" He asked in a mocking tone, I could hear the smirk in his voice. "Yeah..." I said, shifting away, making him stalk closer, "Sehr gut" he murmured, staring me right in the eyes.
I looked at him confused, he stepped closer "You need to be more aware of your surroundings." He advised, I tried to shoot at him, but I heard a click, I ran out of the paintballs Harry issued for training. I tried my pistol and it was jammed. "Fuck." I huffed.
I heard him chuckling, "language" He said in a mocking coo, I lunged at him before a really bright light flooded my eyesight. I stumbled around and tried to use the plastic knife on him to try to out him for the match but I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my shoulders, I was hit by a paintball. Damnit! My vision slowly cleared and I stumbled, he was out of my line of sight, I turned around to see I managed to spin around while I was blinded.
"You should sit down, pretty" he said softly, helping me sit down, I was still dazed and confused. I accepted the help, he was surprisingly nice and gentle despite him flashing me with lightbulbs that felt like they had the power of the sun in them. I grabbed at the wall "You're lucky I don't have epilepsy, God damn" I huffed, making him laugh.
"Ja, sehr, anyways, you're new here, right? What's your name?" He asked, I gave him his name and he nodded and shook my hand "Nice meeting you, I'm Elias, also word of advice, pay attention to your surroundings and I was following you through the halls, this shield is not quiet at all and you didn't seem to notice me. Also pay close attention to your ammunition." He snorted, making me roll my eyes.
"Otherwise, you will go far, kid, just focus on those and you'll stay alive," he said before walking off to curse another poor soul with the light of the sun that he trapped in those bulbs. No wonder Jäger warned me of this man.
I stood up and wandered off to the side lines to watch only to see Cav there looking pissed off. "What happened?" I asked, patting her back "Elias happened, who the hell allowed him to have that shield with those bright ass lights?!" She huffed.
"He got me too!" I laughed, trying to brighten the mood. "Did he give you advice?" I asked, she shook her head "Just said 'Read 'em and weep' and flashed me with a million suns." She huffed, I tried not to snort at that "He taunted me too, Cav, but it was a weird mix of taunting and advice." I said confused.
