So if extraction get an update(which I doubt will ever happen) I’ve been thinking of ideas on what operators could be proteans. Gameplay why of course. And I’ve found that our 5 proteans all are just improved versions of the enemies in game(Sledge-smasher, Finka-apex, vigil-lurker, etc) so to make a new boss would require a playable operator that shares similar abilities with a enemy so I give you 3 different operators that could theoretically be turned into bosses with this philosophy

1. Fuze-Breacher

Fuze’s cluster charges give off the most destructive effect in terms of explosives and area denial. Bleachers are one of 3 enemies that can break though reinforced walls but the red variant it’s certainly the most ‘explosive’ as they self destruct on you or when the large bulb on their back is shot. So a fuze boss would consist of of a shotgun and trying to run up to you and blow up in you face dealing loads of damage. The 2nd phase would add explosive projectiles that would be homing(similar to a tormentor’s charged attack) and phase through objects utilizing hitting an operator, a reinforced wall or being shot at in where it explodes where it’s shot, and when hitting a reinforced wall a hole would appear in the wall similar to a hard breach charge in r6s. The trick would to be using your reinforcements strategically to avoid those homing explosives and keep your distance from the boss while firing.

Extra notes: hibana would also be a good choice for being the boss as well

2. Gridlock-Rooter

Gridlock’s trax stingers are a throwable gadget that slows and damages enemies but takes time to activate and rooters are an enemy that attacks using spikes coming from the ground that immobilizes the target caught in its attack. So an enemy who can immobilize you then follow up by shooting you would make a terrifying boss fight(at least the first time you fight it) this boss would fire a lurker attack when it spots you trapping you in the spikes then attempts to fire at their traps target. It’s enhanced form would have lurker attacks start at this proteans feet and slowly spread out to where they attempt to find ‘prey’. Using smokes to block lines of sights from gridlock an attacking from behind from its front face carapace would be the optimal strategy and this would great for a glaz/warden type operator to see through smokes.

Extra notes: capitiao and nomad would be good choices to be the boss instead

3. Ela-Sower

So this last one’s a bit of a stretch but the sower deserves more attention than being a glorified bullet mag.

Ela’s grizmot mines that stun enemies is what I consider the closest gadget to the sowers mines that flash you. This boss would definitely be the most annoying to fight as it will always try to run away to set its blinding mines and claymores(it would do about 25-50 damage and can down) only in its 3rd phase would it actually engage with the scorpion smg as it sets the blinding mines automatically. Having someone on mine clearing duty while the other 2 chance ela down would be the best strategy.

Extra notes: Iq and Zofia would be considered good operators to chose to beat this boss

Other ideas I have are Tachanka-spiker and doc-feral grunt/revived archaeans. But feel free to add feedback and ideas on what kind of proteans you’d like to see in extraction!

Burnt Horizon

Characters: Max “Mozzie” Goose, Tori “Gridlock” Tallyo Fairous, Valerie “Gorgon” Watts/Watson

Author's Note: Following the trailer cinematic but with my character and additional dialogues. First writing in 2023 and thought I should really tackle this.

Taglist: None for now but I'll make a post regarding about it.

In spite of the soft sand and scorching dust seeping through their feet, the three operators were aware of the setting sun as they felt it on their faces, something that is a regular occurrence in the Central Australian desert.

Mozzie's hand tapped eagerly on his right thigh, sounding notable along with the same leg that was rocking relentlessly. He dreaded having to do nothing except wait for orders as his diminutive figure slouched on the lawn chair in idleness. Clearly, this is not ideal.

In contrast, Gridlock was the stronger-looking woman who appeared to be appreciative of her surroundings. She was also comfortably seated in the lawn chair, but unlike her companion who was on the verge of bursting, the Australian took gently measured sips from her beverage.

Even though it is required of a soldier to be there at another's beck and call, waiting for several hours did not help. And at some point, Mozzie had enough and started to talk, saying, “It's uh…quiet here.”

Gridlock was sitting next to Gorgon, who rolled her eyes at the sentence before gulping down the icy beverage in her gloved hand.

Under the black and grey camouflage suit pressing against the seat, it seemed like paradise, soothing her sweaty skin. The newest soldier, who was set to depart on another mission, decided to opt to accompany her friends to the Outback in order to make the most of her short free time while they were there.

At least it's better than waiting aimlessly at the headquarters. She slouched on the chair with the other hand occupied with grasping a tiny pebble she had discovered on the dirt. The never-ending action of throwing the projectile into the air before catching it.

“Mhmm.” Gridlock nodded and cast a sidelong glance at Mozzie, choosing not to partake in his hyperactivity.

Then he attempted to rise up and even perhaps thought about pacing around for a little, but Gorgon quickly squashed that notion, “Moz.”

Darn it, he muttered to himself. Maybe there's other approaches to alleviating weariness being restricted in this large desert. Their endless playground.

The male's body was getting restless and jittery after a short while, but he chose to glance up at the sky in an effort to focus his mind on something else.

Unfortunately, after three more seconds, that failed to work.

Both women recognise the moment that Mozzie was eager for action and full of adrenaline as he gives out a wheezy laughter. Uh-oh.

“It's like really, really, really—”

The larger woman exhaled subtly, and her head briskly tilted to one side, which made her close friend snicker.

Gridlock then turned her focus to Mozzie, pointing at him with her occupied hand as if she were presenting an actual fact, “Was quiet.”

“Quiet.” The unexpected cutoff embarrassed the shorter male, who stared at the ground while reflexively trying to grab hold of the air surrounding him.

It made him feel like he got found by his mother for his mistakes, and that sight certainly made Gorgon snort at the man from the other side. The female operator may have covered her upper face, but if one peered closely, they could tell that she was stifling a grin as her eyes crinkled with amusement.

She then decided to throw the little rock in his direction, eliciting an annoyed “ouch.”

He was on the verge of considering doing the same to her when the radio started announcing.

Attention, convoy entering the sector in five minutes.

However, before the device had finished speaking, Mozzie leapt out of his chair and went for the gadget on the makeshift table as the women gawked at him with a sense of bewilderment.

They could tell he was delighted to get startedwhile he sprinted to get on his bike through the tone of his laughter.

After setting the bottle down on the table and getting up to retrieve her shotgun, Gridlock gave Gorgon a nod, indicating that it was time for her and her partner to leave.

“I'll take care of these, have fun Grid.” She bid the woman farewell with the remaining drink in her hand.

And yet, Mozzie's motorbike began emitting a roar, and he accelerated away, sending smoke and dirt in their direction.

“WOOOOOOOOO!” 

It appears that Gridlock must catch up to him, but not before she stretches her shoulders.

Following the loud click of Gridlock's shotgun, she made her way to her car, “See you in the base later mate.” 

“Alrightio.” 

Another radio started to go distorted after Gorgon gave a brief response to her buddy.

“Operator, get ready in fifteen.”

“Understood.”

The woman responded as she watched her friend speed away while verifying to make sure the rifle remained rested against the seat with her free hand. 

Gorgon took a deep breath as she continued to admire Uluru's beauty in front of her before gazing up into the sky. Just a few more minutes.
