One of my biggest motivations in Legend of Legaia (PSone, 1999) was leveling up the characters' Ra-Seru - for those of you who never played the game, they were the bracelets these folks are wearing, which are actually sentient magic beings. Once I realized that they morphed as you enhanced their powers, it became a mission to advance the plot further so that they would level up more and become more and more badass.
