Everyone assumes Reg and Evan are best friends since they always sit next to each other in class but that's only becoz Reg and Barty are the IRL embodiment of Thing 1 & Thing 2 and must be forcibly separated from each other in every single class, assembly announcement, and any independent studying in the library since the beginning of second year.
