65 isnt sure how to feel. hes omly 16 ya feel? he feels awful, sure, but he doesnt know how to process it.

lukas himself is...well he feels guilty. he saw a young version of himself in 56 and he wasnt there when shit went down. he wishes he couldve been - at least to comfort 56 in his last moments if not talk him down. he also regrets not getting closer to him, maybe if hed been a better friend?

hes also secretly a lil jealous of the rabbits 81 funded to go see the aftermath, although he feels like he wouldnt have deserved to go anyway.

As far as reasoning? Lukas has paranoid schizophrenia. He spent his entire life hearing voices and seeing shadows that “weren’t there” and wound up honestly obsessed with the idea of finding something supernatural that is so absolutely and viscerally real that he can prove to himself that he isn’t really “crazy.”

He wasn’t sure if HABIT was real or not (at least at first), but it was a last ditch effort.

As brought to light in a previous ask, Lukas wasn’t actually the wonderful big bro he lets on. Although he was less awful than their parents, he was also responsible for abusing 65. Seeing the poor kid wind up in the trials was a punch to the face - If he were a better brother would it have still happened? Was it his fault his little brother, who he truly loves, has put himself in harms way?

(Also I will not lie, if 65 wound up dead 47 was ABSOLUTELY going to intentionally get himself killed, either by attempting to get in touch with pat or just by insulting hab until it stuck)
