Also... I was talking to a friend about Strawberry's warren, always my fave part of the book, and I described it as a cult. But I am reading that part again now and it is really critically not a cult. It is the weird rituals and rules that a society builds up to cope with unbearable circumstances imposed on them in ways they cannot fully understand due to having no way to conceptualize an alternate way of life
