When I first got to Berlin, my dad sent me a recent article about cheap performance art in the city, as an alternative to the classic/cliche/tourist destinations. I did some research on one of the venues, and it turns out it was a place that I had walked by and peered into earlier in the day. I walked back the next day and bought a ticket for something called "Nachtmusik mitt Yoga." The woman working at reception asked me if I had any experience in yoga, which I did in the form of a class I took in sophomore year of high school (mostly because I thought I would be the only boy). What she really should have asked, though, is if I had any experience in German. I underestimated the difficulty I would have in following directions in a language I did not understand. In some cases, I could just watch the person in front of me. But some poses required our heads to be down. I thought that I was doing well, until I peered up from a sitting position to see everyone doing the tree pose. What followed was the "nachtmusik" component of the show, a violinist named Jorge Jimenez (Irrelevant: I unknowingly sat next to him before the performance as he ate an apple pie). It was my second consecutive evening of violin music, as the previous night I saw a dance performance set to violin. This was incredibly relaxing; we remained on our yoga mats for the show and most of the crowd (about 50 people) laid down. After the performance, I wasn't sure if I fell asleep, which means I did. It was the perfect way to end an otherwise exhausting and stressful day.
