Today. I did not exist. I was the invisible thread in the lives of others. Never my own.
Driving from one other to two other, radio roulette slapped me awake with this familiar, favourite ditty. Damn I needed it.

"Radio Roulette #2" of yesterday... But not from the radio, from the closing credits of a film. But still a surprise. And I'm not sure which film it was we were watching, because we were doing a bit of film binging. I wanna say "Isle of Dogs" but I could be so wrong. So there. So potentially wrong. Like many things in life.
And yeah, I know all The Stones controversy to do with this song, but I still love it all on its own. It happens to be one of those very rare songs that I probably like watching even more. I love his stride/sway down the pavement, knocking folks left and right. There is no prejudice - total disregard for all people. Deep down, I am certain I have days I wish I could partake in such a cavalier swagger.
Today's Radio Roulette. I only learnt of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky thanks to being schooled in Berry as early as a toddler.
Radio Roulette yesterday... Blondie was my Dad's favourite band of the 80's. Nope, no real idea why. And, yep. I got choked up, singing off-key to this tune, whilst driving about town. I still cry to all the songs that remind me of Dad. Which are a lot. I'm wholly OK with this very public admission.
Radio Roulette...
One thing I do miss about working is the time alone in the car listening to music. Hit on this ditty whilst making my way from the kitty chemist to the human chemist.
Koshka is now pumped on her painkillers... Only about an hour behind schedule. The shower seemed to help my tummy settle a bit (?), but still at odds with fake period cramps. And a blistering headache from hell. With tinnitus pounding it out in my ears. I've taken some extra-strong sinus headache shite... Hoping it will help. Nothing yet.
Although this song does go back to my years as a teen - it also reminds me of my most recent "ex"... When The Silverback and I were heading toward another split. Or split, but still living under the same roof. These things can be hard to define. Sometimes I cannot believe I fell so hard for someone so difficult. Or just someone so selfish. That's probably the most "fair" word to use. Especially when I had someone so giving already in my life. What the fuck was I thinking? I know what I was thinking... and feeling. And it was all very real at the time. But that time passed. Quite a while ago.
There were a ton of so-called signs. But I just kept pushing through with this other one. When I came to my senses, there was my patient and forgiving Silverback waiting for me. He and I have put each other through a lot over nearly 25 years.
Making a relationship work for that long is not always pretty. It can be downright ugly at times. We've been enjoying a really good patch since this last episode. A ton of bad shite has gone down, but we've grown closer through the adversity. Definitely much more honest... More forthright with each other... Little festering and better communication. Anyroad... Yeah, marching forward together. It's pretty fucking amazing...
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - Soulmates to Strangers
Hit on radio roulette on the ride home from New Hampshire yesterday. Wow. The Silverback and I were both digging this one. I told him I should dedicate it to the fellow who taught me to cook rice properly. He agreed. Never have I felt so immensely close to someone to then ask myself - "Who the fuck is this person?!?" So, this is dedicated to him... Of course, The Silverback gets kudos for being ultra-cool whilst I talked about the ex. Um, especially as the ex was an old friend of The Silverback's...
Note - PJH is *not* Polly Jean Harvey, I wish...
New York Dolls - Dance Like a Monkey on The Henry Rollins Show (2006)
radio roulette slot on way to groceria with silverback yesterday. yep, me and my monkey playing along to this song like a pair of chimps in the vee-dub.
BUT! why were we headed to the groceria AGAIN? text from my bestie that she needed "goat cheese crumbles" for thanksgiving dinner. she and i spent how many HOURS at the groceria and somehow something as specific as "goat cheese crumbles" were overlooked?!? i was a bit "oh my fucking g-d" when i got that text... but she is my bestie... and it's much easier for me to make a quick trek to the groceria than for her to pack up a toddler and run out for one item! i may be a total bitch, but i am a pretty decent friend.
and with that... i encourage you all to embrace "dance like a monkey" as many of us prepare for the craziness that is the thanksgiving holiday! it's good for the soul!
Pretenders - Precious, Capitol Theatre: Sept 27th 1980
Radio roulette... While out grocery shopping with my bestie, who happens to be a born-n-bred Cleveland rock chickie... Oh, and bestie is indeed precious.
