I dunno if you are able to answer this, but I was wondering if it is alright to pick up wild snakes? I have some baby garter snakes living near me and I always want to just kinda hold them(I know how to without being bit), but I'm always worried that it may caused high stress to them or maybe bacteria from my skin may cause infection?

Before I answer, I’m white. This is my opinion as a white person who doesn’t get a say at all in this basically, but.

Jenna Marbles worked at a tanning salon. She used their tanning beds and uses self tanner to this day. Even her wax figure at Madame Tussauds is ORANGE.

Back in the day, 6+ years ago, her tan was very orange.

She made a video doing an impression of Nicki Minaj while she had this horrible tan. She didn’t DO the tan for the impression. The impression was bad and shes since spoken out that it was very culturally insensitive and a racist video that she doesn’t like.

This “blackface” was Jenna Marbles, with extremely orange tan. And then she painted her face GREEN (which did look like blackface I won’t lie) and pretended Nicki Minaj was the Hulk and said “Nicki Smash” or something like that.

However she’s also said she will not continually apologize for “blackface” because that’s not why she painted her face. It wasn’t to look like she was black, it was to look like the hulk.. It was an orange tan, and a racist impression. She’s apologized for the impression. If her orange tan is blackface, she had blackface for years. However the tan paired with the impression and her face painted green, was called “blackface.”

If you look at any video she’s done since then, she’s one of the most sensitive people on YouTube. When her audience tells her something is wrong, she listens. She got fish and returned them because they were in a bad tank and she did it wrong thanks to the person helping at the pet store. She got a hamster and got an entirely new home for it because her audience let her know the home she got him first was entirely inappropriate.

She’s grown a lot on YouTube and a racist impression she has since apologized for is the least of the things people should be worried about, in my opinion. She can’t apologize for it every day for the rest of her life.

Her wax figure is orange.

Her tan is constantly orange.

Her tan in this impression is orange. And her “blackface” is green face paint while she pretended to be the Hulk very insensitively. It is racist. It wasn’t intended to be blackface but she’s apologized for it and hasn’t done it or things like it again.

She’s 30+ and has grown since this point and has proved that. She has one of the most wholesome channels on YouTube right now.

(hot take) every white person is racist. Racism is ingrained into us at this point. It’s how we relearn and grow from mistakes that matters. Not what mistakes we make.

Yes some people do racist shitty things and continue to do them with no remorse. But other people do them and regret it and do better in the future. You can’t always hold mistakes over peoples heads. People will never learn if mistakes can’t actually be learned from.

So, TL;DR if you’re black or any variation of and you find this offensive, entirely valid and it’s up to you whether you forgive Jenna Marbles at all.

If you’re white, get over it. Support people who were or are offended by this. And then decide for yourself if the mistakes someone has made have gone to a point where you’re not willing to support or follow them anymore.

Jenna Marbles is someone I will continue to support. If someone out there is rightfully offended and hurt by her (meaning they’re not white) I will support them always. White people do not get to decide what is racist and what’s hurtful. Support people who do get to decide that.

Sometimes apologies help, sometimes they don’t. Decide when and who this applies to.
