Cancer, Leo, and Sagittarius for the zodiac writing asks!
CANCER: how do you write emotional scenes? do you ever feel what the characters feel?
I mean, the lazy answer is “find some music that reminds me of a time I felt similar to this”. But for a longer answer: I feel like it doesn’t usually help me to feel exactly what my characters are feeling, but rather to try and access what weird thoughts ran through my head in that moment. I feel like just having the characters feel the physical impact of the emotion helps, but the texture of those thoughts is what makes it real and what will make it more real to the reader. I feel like a good example of this is when I was really depressed in high school and I had all the aches and whatever that you would associate with that - but what I remember more is that all I could think about was how much I hated the idea of a god that cared about me? Like that’s the shit that makes an emotional scene real.
LEO: what things will show up in every book you write? do you ever feel like a one-trick pony?
Everything I write is functionally just a retelling of Persuasion, so... yeah kinda, but Persuasion is a great book.
SAGITTARIUS: do you find your writing humorous? do you have any comic relief characters? what do you do if a scene gets too serious?
I actually kinda suck at comedic writing, but I try to have some humor in my stories, because I think too much seriousness is (a) boring and (b) unrealistic. I don’t usually do a straight up comic relief character, but I do try to have a couple characters that aren’t as bogged down with drama so they can break things up a bit more naturally. :)
@radiosaturday has turned the living room into a workshop. My partner is talented and I am in awe of them and their various skills.

Cigar Galaxy: How’s your flirting skills?
