I've drawn him here holding his notes and some dried plants, they're something that cling to him and have included so much of his life and the choices he makes. His intent was always that they'd be helpful, but he has a hard time reckoning with the fact that his research has lead to some pretty harmful consequences.

He will always have at least a few of these things on his person, across his pockets and his bag depending. If he's got a free afternoon, he's often either helping as a general handyman or out foraging for plants and such for his notes.

1: Why do you like/dislike this character?

he keeps things fresh, not just on a book-to-book basis for the reader, but also in his own story world. for example, he's a naturally curious man, and because he doesn't sleep, he has a lot more time than anyone else to experiment with magic. this means he's able to do things as an elemental mage that none of his other elemental peers have even considered, let alone tried, with relative ease.

he's not gatekeepy about it either, he tries to teach his friends how to do what he does but a lot of them are too busy to really put it to good practice, so it kinda ends up bring unique to him anyway.

2: Favorite canon thing about this character?

couldn't think of a singular favourite thing but something i really like is the big mystery of how he was able to come back to life after he was murdered, burned, and then had his bones thrown in a river. this perplexes him and his peers for hundreds of years, it's the one mystery he can't solve, and then when we finally get the answer of how it happened, not only is it surprisingly simple, but it also kinda implies that there should be a few more people out there like him, which i think is pretty funny.

3: Least favorite canon thing about this character?

uhh... the war crimes i guess? that seems to be the only clear answer but it does give us a reliable source of drama and also a pretty decent safety net when needed

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

i think he'd get along with Dr House really well, they'd make for a funny pairing

8 and 14?

8. Did you watch any classics for the first time (ie. films "everyone" says are great)? What did you think?

Yeah! I finally watched The Shawshank Redemption and loved it. My poppa has been telling me for years that I needed to watch it lmao, it's obviously got a massive reputation - and I think it's well deserved. I loved the slow building tension, I liked the character dynamics, and I thought the follow through to the ending was a really narratively fulfilling one.

14. Did you DNF any films this year?

Had to look this up lmao, but no I don't think I watched anything that I dropped partway through viewing... Pretty sure most stuff I've seen this year was either things I wanted to see in the cinema or DVDs at home haha

🖐️ - draw your OC’s hand or hands. What’s distinctive about them?

He's got very human hands (not everyone in his universe does) so that's distinctive. Actually looking at them, he's got freckles on them, and he's got dirt under his nails, cuts and bruises and stains on his hands, even some blisters or callouses forming on his palms from working. He does way his hands regularly, but they get dirty quickly.

🥾- draw your OC’s boots. Not shoes - boots. In what circumstances do they wear them?

Cause Abe has hooves, being a satyr and all, he can't wear typical boots. However, the equivalent of boots to him are horseshoes and a formal leg wrap.

Once horse shoes are, on they're on, so he can't really take them off for various occasions. Working long days and walking on paved streets wears his hooves down fast, so he's gotta protect them. The leg wrap is just a thing most people wear as a kind of pant cuff where Abe is from, this formal one just looks a bit neater and sits flatter compared to the more practical leg wraps that are meant to keep the pant legs secure when you're working. Abe will wear the formal leg wraps on days when he's not working and just being a tourist with Orc.

4. Does your OC consider themselves to be attractive? Do they put much effort into achieving this?

Orc doesn't really think he's attractive or unattractive, I don't think he really thinks about it much at all tbh. If pressed to say, I think he'd just say he's a solid middle-of-the-road attractive. There's parts he thinks are handsome and some parts he doesn't, but it's not like he wants to ruminate on it.

He does take good care of himself though, he likes to make sure he's clean and tidy, and likes when his hair and beard are long enough to dress up for nice occasions, and really wants to find a tailor who can make him big sized versions of clothes to match with Abe while they're travelling - but that's a bit more about fitting in rather than being attractive.

10. Does your OC have a type? Have they ever been surprised by their feelings for someone who doesn't fit this?

Abe didn't really think he had a type, he had a hard time with this growing up and didn't really get to explore it well so he kinda bottled it up and didn't think about it much beyond that. He knows he prefers men, I don't think he's really thought too hard beyond that - but he does like the workers who wear traditional style clothes for their work. Definitely did not influence him to finally get some traditional clothes when they started stamp work. Not at all.

In regards to him being surprised when he ends up with Orc, I think he's just surprised at all that anyone likes him the way Orc does, before and after they start sleeping together. There's so much about Orc that he wouldn't have thought he'd find attractive, like how he's huge and has one eye and big lower teeth like tusks... Not to mention Orcs were supposed to just be a fantasy creature in the old wives tales. But Abe does grow to find Orc really attractive the more they hang out and are intimate with each other 😏
