Why did you choose to compete on Idol Project?: I chose to compete on Idol Project mostly as a way to prove to myself and my family that I am capable of debuting and that I’m not a disappointment for missing out of a debut with Hydra. Part of me also wants to show DS that I’m ready to debut and it’s not a mistake choosing me to represent the company.

What do you feel are your strengths? Weaknesses?: I think my strengths are my stage presence and ease at learning new choreography. I’ve gained a stage presence and charisma through my extended training period and learning choreography comes easily to me. I think my biggest weakness is that I’m standoffish and I like to work solo. I know I’ll need to overcome that to do well in the competition. Also my vocals are another weakness; I can rap decently enough but singing I struggle immensely with. I’ve been told I’m not bad but I’ve never trained my singing abilities so I think they’re my weakest department.

What are you hoping to accomplish while on the show?: I’m hoping to accomplish a personal feat as well as doing well in the competition. I want to prove to myself that I’m capable of debut and that I can do well at whatever I put my mind to. I also would like to train my singing voice a bit more - becoming a triple threat would be a dream.

What do you think your biggest challenge will be?: I think my biggest challenge will be getting over the lisp I have because I feel like sometimes it makes people not take me seriously and it makes me doubt myself. I also think interacting with others will be a large challenge initially and I hope I can get over this.

Do you have anything you’d like to say to your CEO(s) and coaches?: I hope I can make you proud and show that putting me isn’t a mistake.

woo raekyung was born into a family who struggled. from the moment he was born it seemed like the world was at odds with him and that he’d have to fight his way to get anywhere. growing up he didn’t pursue many hobbies out of fear that he’d get attached and cause his parents to go bankrupt.

he was sought out by a ds media caster whilst shopping in the mall with his mother and, with the encouragement of his family, took the plunge and became a trainee, promising that he’d make his parents proud.

he trained for a good five years before being put into the final lineup for hydra. ecstatic, he was able to contact his parents and tell them he was debuting. unfortunately, at the very last moment, he was pulled from the lineup on the account of wanting to balance out the rappers and vocalists despite recording his part of the songs and learning the choreography. devastated, raekyung closed up a little and began to mill over the fact he had disappointed his parents, in his eyes.

he had some hope when he was told he would debut as a soloist instead and had become optimistic when the second season of idol project was announced. when he wasn’t picked for that he fell in a slump again, convinced he’d never debut.

he remains somewhat hopeful that he’ll debut in the near future but it’s becoming more and more of a reality that he’ll be an idol with an extremely long training period.

raekyung’s extremely determined and wants nothing more than to show the world what he can do and what he’s made of. he’s generally optimistic and adopts a stage presence so well many think he’s cold off stage. he feels the need to prove himself due to the fact he has a lisp, one that intensifies as he gets more nervous.

whatever fiery, burning passion he had towards the rivalry has diminished; he simply now just wants to debut.
