“I just feel calmer. When I’m with you.”
send me a soft sentence starter
Mackenzie Petite had always been a bit of a loose cannon. Growing up with Tall Boy for a father and the Serpents for an extended family had hardened her a bit, shortened her fuse, given her a fight to brew within her at all times. She was decent at controlling it, knew how to curve her anger, knew how to not fly off the handle like some of the others — Sweet Pea — did
But bar all of that, she rarely felt calm. Mack was a storm with skin, a walking hurricane, a category five with a whiplash for a tongue. Girls like her didn’t know soft and they didn’t know peace. And when girls like her with added to towns like Riverdale? Well, that was a combination that was destruction in the making.
Tall Boy’s betrayal had been her breaking point. She had nearly gone off the rails the night it happened. After everything she had been put through, this took the cake. When her mother split town, her father and the Serpents were all she had. He had taught her that the Serpents would always be there for her. She had danced on that fucking pole at fifteen to be fully apart of this family. The family that he claimed would be the one thing that would be good for them. And he betrayed them for his own fucking gain.
She had lost it. She had screamed. Cried. Thrown things. The storm had been started and she was ready to see the world burn in retaliation for the universe’s cruel joke.
But then there had been Fangs. He had been the one person in the world who was capable of quelling her rage, ending her anger. He was the calm to her storm. He had talked her down, had held her the entire night, had been the one person to see her cry since she was seven. He had brought her back, had made her see everything in colors that weren’t red.
At that very moment, she laid in bed with him, his arms wrapped tightly around her waist. Her head was against his chest, the sound of his heartbeat right against her ear. Her hand gripped his arm, fingers delicately tracing along the double headed serpent inked on his bicep. Their breathing was slow, delicate, innocent It was an intimate position, possibly too intimate for two people who were best friends, even with the benefits they added into the equation.
But right now, she didn’t care. Because for the first time in literal weeks, maybe even months, she felt at peace. Regardless of the world outside the doors of her trailer, reagrdless of the dread building in her heart, regardless of the Petite family’s legacy being reduced to nothing but liars and fuck ups, she felt calm.
She only ever truly felt that with Fangs.
“Thank you,” she mumbled then, the words being muffled by the material of his shirt.
Fangs shifted slightly, looking down at her resting on his chest. “For what, Kenzie?”
She shrugged in his arms. “The other night? Every night? Our whole lives, really. I don’t know, I just … I just feel calmer. When I’m with you. It’s a nice feeling.”
Fangs didn’t say anything. He just shuffled along the bed, pulled her up to meet his eyes. He gave her a soft smile before pressing his lips to hers in what she could only describe as the kind of feeling that was akin to a happily ever after.
In a town like Riverdale, though, happy endings were hard to come by. But with the quiet and the peace and the calm, a girl — even one as damaged and guarded as Mack — could always dream. Dreaming had always been easier in his arms, anyways.
