Advice for Remy, Day 20. Don't take things for granted - they won't all be around forever. One of the beauties of living where we do is that, on a very regular basis, we’re treated to a spectacular world-class air show in the skies above our house. Having the Red Arrows stationed close by at RAF Scampton is something I’ve always taken for granted, as they’ve always just been there in the skies for pretty much my whole life. I remember being a child and seeing them drawing shapes in the sky, pummelling over our garden (usually followed by the monstrous Vulcan), at an altitude which felt like I could throw a ball up and hit them. It always felt so peculiar to see them on TV, entertaining crowds across the world with people making a huge deal of them, as they were just my own personal sky-based entertainment. Nowadays barely a day seems to go by without them hurtling over our house, splitting up, chasing each other, regrouping and using the sky over the field opposite is as a canvas, painting stripes, hearts and all manner of shapes just for us. In fact we’ve become so accustomed to them that I actually got annoyed the other day when they flew over, as you were in your bed asleep and I was worried the sudden burst of jet engines would wake you up. But nothing lasts forever, and if reports are to be believed they’ll be moving on sometime soon. Hopefully they’ll not be too far away, and hopefully you’ll get the chance to appreciate them flying over your house before they go, as it’s something a lot of us probably take for granted but really is a little bit special.
