Cool story BRO
The other day when the same sex marriage ban in Oregon was struck down I was like "Cool story bro" which makes me feel callous and too cool for school - but also like: Guys, it was gonna happen.
And PS, how does this affect my life in this moment? I have a cat named after my grandfather, a juicer, and a netflix account. I still can't get married to the third season of Scandal. [Nor should I - the president always makes Olivia have that STUPID face where she's about to weep, instead of the one where she wears the WHITE HAT and is a GLADIATOR and shit. Kick Fitz in the balls and come to MY window, Olivia Pope!]
Then I texted Kelly who lives in Iowa, where it's already been legal For Years and she is surrounded by 19 year olds who are like WE'RE MARRIED and I was like FYI this just happened so get ready for a bunch of comments about how great it is from "allies!"
Then I said "Oh my god I BET that my mom will say: nothing [because of her ongoing dedication to silence as an expression of homophobia] and my dad will email me an article from oregonlive!!!"
Lo and behold: An email from my dad showed up in my inbox with a link to an oregonlive article!!!! He said:
Seems particularly poignant after Bob’s sad story line in last night’s episode.

Bob Benson, trying so hard to be the kind of man that GM would hire that he would have a sham marriage with Joan! DO YOU KNOW that Sunday night during Mad Men my dad fucking asked me if I knew what Stonewall was? I was like OF COURSE I DO, JESUS. EYE ROLL DADDDDDDD.
And then a second followup email with an excerpt of the Judge's decision!
I am aware that a large number of Oregonians, perhaps even a majority, have religious or moral objections to expanding the definition of civil marriage (and thereby expanding the benefits and rights that accompany marriage) to gay and lesbian families. It was these same objections that led to the passage of Measure 36 in 2004. Generations of Americans, my own included, were raised in a world in which homosexuality was believed to be a moral perversion, a mental disorder, or a mortal sin. I remember that one of the more popular playground games of my childhood was called "smear the queer" and it was played with great zeal and without a moment's thought to today's political correctness. On a darker level, that same worldview led to an environment of cruelty, violence, and self-loathing ... Even today I am reminded of the legacy that we have bequeathed today's generation when my son looks dismissively at the sweater I bought him for Christmas and, with a roll of his eyes, says "dad ... that is so gay."
So while I'm rolling my eyes because my dad is trying to talk to me about Stonewall, this guy's kid is rolling his eyes as he calls a sweater pejoratively gay.
I am stuck on it! I'm like - I am rolling my eyes because instead of asking me about what I think, or having curiosity about my experience AS AN ACTUAL GAY, my straight white boomer father only knows how to relate by TELLING ME FUCKING BASELINE SHIT ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE GAY COMMUNITY as if he's some FUCKING AUTHORITY? [OH YOU HAVE A LUXURY CONDO IN SAN FRANCISCO? WITH A GAY DOORMAN? PLEASE TELL ME MORE ABOUT HOW IT IS FOR LGBT PEOPLE THERE. AND EVERYWHERE!]
And THEN it's like: compared to my mom - HE'S DOING GREAT!!! On the one hand, I fucking hate when people are like "so gay marriage, right??" to me, like WE DID IT!!! NOW OPPRESSION IS GONE! SAME LOVE! And I'm nodding and staring with a vacant smile. Like YOU DON'T KNOW ME, DO YOU. On the other: Do you know how thrilled I'd be if my mom fucking celebrated the allowance of same sex marriage in Oregon? For someone whose only two children are homos, you'd think she would fucking care.
Anyway, then there's the truth of this Judge's son and calling the sweater gay in that mean way. What a cringe. He is rolling his eyes because his dad is so out of touch, trying to give him a present that is so uncool. Isn't it so uncool for a dad to give a teenage boy anything though? Like, the only thing I can imagine an idiot teen boy accepting without embarrassment [and a great way to overcome embarrassment is with homophobia btw!] is like, a machine gun. And even then - it is so phallic.
Merry christmas: I got you some CKOne deodorant. Gay. I got you a Tegan and Sara CD. Gay. I got you a periwinkle parka from Burlington Coat Factory. Gay.
My dad is such a thoughtful gift giver! Some day I would love it if he gave me the gift of listening, rather than telling. But we will see! I LOVE YOU DADDDDD!
Does anyone know where I can download the last episode of series 2 of Bluestone 42?
I am so done with highschool.
Like ugh man. Why can't people just do their jobs and not be so freaking rude and lazy? Like, it's your job to watch everyone else and help if they need help and OH YEAH do stuff! Not leave my sister to do all the work while you two do none of it. Jesus.
