Khepri stared down the man - thing - before her, defensively crossing her arms over her chest, her injured hand laying limply atop her forearm. The receipt laid in front of her and she carefully pulled it closer so she could examine it. It all checked out - the date was right, everything was right. He had bought flowers, a cake...balloons. They had some stupid fight about her being pregnant before he stormed out, and he must have had a change of heart. The realization broke her heart some more, but she refused to let any tears spill over. She had done enough crying in the past two years.
Carefully, she pushed the receipt back in his direction. “I told you I was pregnant that night.” Khepri paused, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear before continuing. “We argued over the baby, you stormed out. I can only assume that you were buying a cake, balloons, and flowers after a change of heart.” A shallow breath left her lips, a futile attempt to calm herself. The girl couldn’t believe that this was her life. That her ex-boyfriend was a vampire who had no memory of his human life - who had literally been living in the same area all of this time.
“I wrote your parents, you know. They never liked me...but this..” she bit down on her lip, almost hard enough to make it bleed. “This is so messed up.” Despite her best efforts and her vow to herself just a few moments earlier, a few tears slipped down her cheeks. “I wrote them when I said you disappeared, when I had the child...pictures, everything. Invited them to the babyshower, to ultrasounds, everything - they didn’t mention it? Me?” The questions were posed, but she knew the answer. Wes’ family never once accepted her or liked it, and it seemed to still be haunting her.
“Is anything ringing a bell for you - anything coming back to you at all? I just want you...to remember me..” A heavy sigh fell out of her mouth as she took his hand in her good one, attempting not to flinch at how cool it was to the touch. “Please tell me you remember something.”
